In the first minutes I did not understand what was the direction of the track. But then when began the ambient, I loved it. It is very warm, could be used in cinematic cutscenes or games, fits perfectly. Greetings.
Okay, I don't really blame Newgrounds for not accommodating the full title of this piece, which is: "This Is My Original Character, His Name Is 'Dioptrex, the Fractal Mage of Ice and Thunder'".
The percussion in this piece was created using a technique where, starting with a seed sound (which I took to be 1 cycle of a sine tone), I chose a random clip from it in Audacity, spliced that clip onto the end and reduced its amplitude, and then took the new sound thus created and repeated the process on it. This creates a sort of self-similarity in the sound: the most audible way this manifests itself is as a subtle sort of reverb.
What was interesting was that, for the 8 different percussive sounds that play at the beginning of the piece, I applied the exact same process to get each of them, but got different pitches each time. The melody that underpins the piece was based off of these pitches.
I've now transitioned to using Supercollider to make the rest of my sounds and, unsurprisingly, it is significantly easier than Mathematica. The piece was then assembled in Tracktion 4.
This isn't entirely done yet; I'm planning on including it in an album, and ending it with a segue into the following track. For the moment, though, I'd like to preview it here. And especially since it isn't the final version, constructive criticism (or praise, or questions, or entertaining clickbait titles, whatever) would be much appreciated. And make sure to check out my other music!

This is a really interesting piece. I think my favorite part is how subtle you are, that's a very rare trait to find in Newgrounds Audio (no offense to anyone).
Reading your description its clear you really experimented to get a very interesting sound, and I think it pays off. I can definitely imagine this as a really cool bit in a video game, or interlude in an album, or in a strange movie soundtrack.
Regardless I think it hits an interesting mood and is well processed and written, it doesn't lack depth in the composition, what little their is. That's one of the toughest parts about writing such a minimal song like this, is trying to not make it sound lazy, like you were falling back on lack of composing skills. But it really doesn't here.
I love it, keep making music!
Thanks! I was actually worried that this piece might be a bit too subtle, but the response I've been getting suggests that wasn't a problem. Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm loving the ambiance here.
Keep experimenting. I like where you are going.
Please contact me if you would like to use this in a project. We can discuss the details.
