Doom E1M1 - Sega Genesis Style

Again, every effort made to keep this authentic. This one of course was a fair bit easier since it already didn't use that many channels (in this case I'm using four channels for guitar, one channel for bass, and one channel for DAC percussion)
As I was experimenting, I ended up getting a fucking awesome pulse-pounding beat in there. Unfortunately, in the name of authenticity, it meant I had to drop the cowbells (on account of the one instrument at a time limit on the percussion track). Oh well.

Definitely switched things up with this one! :D I like the POW sound with the beat too. So different. After a while it almost starts getting a bit distracting but... then come the pauses and once it comes back it's just as refreshing an addition. Like Doom and Bloons, or something... really cool cover.

Almost perfect.
You could have used a PSG channel for the cowbell. The SEGA Genesis has 3 PSGs, you should utilize them. This does sound true to the real thing, though the drums are a bit loud. I'm glad to see that you are trying to stay authentic to the system instead of straight up midi ripping.
Are you using the soundfont by The Eighth Bit? If so, drop it. Try VOPM (or mid2vgm if you really know how to work with midi controllers). Trust me on this, SEGA Genesis music is what I do.

KillaMaaki responds:

Actually this is pretty old and I've stopped using soundfonts altogether. All of my newer covers like this are done in the DefleMask tracker. That said, I hadn't thought of revisiting this and maybe I will.

Dude this is REALLY awesome!
