Lamm - Realm 3: Thorns

More retro game music for "Lamm".
http://www.lamm-game.fr/

This world is covered in thorns which I tried to show in the music with sharp contrasts of volume (loud then quiet) and texture (different types of sounds). I also wanted to keep the nature theme running in this.

As this is part of an OST for a single game, it has the same palette as the other pieces bearing the word "Lamm" in the title.

Enjoy. :)

mmmmm nostalgic. Like the variety of instruments you have, great melodies going on and i iove the harmonies you make with the square wave synth. Really loving the drums, they sound really lo-fi but still remain crisp and sit well in the mix. Good job man!

MetalRenard responds:

The drums were hard to get right. They went through several iterations - I wanted them to sound clear and have depth but still have that "lo-fi" texture to them. Obviously they're fake, I just reduced the quality with a bit crusher but the rest had to be done with some pretty intricate mixing. My inspiration for the sound was the original Sonic The Hedgehog game's soundtrack. :)

Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to leave your thoughts!

really like how you approached this thorn world idea in the description, very cool.

my favourite part is definitely the bassline you have going on at the start with that rough sounding synth. none of the melodies are very memorable, but i feel like they work more as ambient kind of sounds, considering how this is game music.

MetalRenard responds:

Cheers, thanks for leaving a comment. I'm glad you liked my approach. :)

Hey, this is cool! I love the instruments, especially the grouchy bass and the oriental-sounding synths. I love how it almost sounds like breakbeat without the beat (there are a lot of starts and stops in the syncopations, if you know what I mean). This is a catchy and pretty unique piece. It also loops really well. Nice job, MetalRenard! ^^

MetalRenard responds:

It's not actually a synth, it's a sampled instrument from Ra (EWQL), so you have good ears!
Thanks for the kind words!

A really nicely done loop. Could be used in some pirated games installers :-D (jk)

MetalRenard responds:

Haha, what do you mean by that? :)
Thanks!
