I wrote the intro, beat, and bass parts to this song in November 2013. I remember I was going for a VGM song like Platform, but it quickly turned into some strange upbeat house once I added the melodies, chords and structure in December 2014. Took me about 6 hours total in FL Studio 11. I am aware of the clashing chords, but I thought they added an eerie dynamic to an otherwise rather upbeat piece. 0_O Also, this is my last song of 2014, I believe. Thanks for your incessant support, everyone! :D

Ohhh so close. The bass misses the mark and the rest is kinda well hang on, eh yeah the rest is kinda nothing. It's very close, but not there...oh and of course you hit me with an atmospheric chord at 3:36... Of course you do. It was a 3, gotta go 4.5 because of that ending chord. I loved it.

TaintedLogic responds:

Thanks man! Seems like the last chord has proven really divisive among this comment section, haha. :)

really simple for my tastes wish bass notes wher a bit stronger pretty chill like the someone dark happy tune
melody around 110 is really good n.n
125 would be great if the work up was nicer n.n
i kinda wish the samples wher a bit more crisp

TaintedLogic responds:

Thanks a lot for the review! Would you mind specifying what you thought was simplistic about it, please? Or...did you mean the piece in general? Sorry...I'm a bit confused. I understand your complaints with the bass. I mixed this on my headphones, so maybe I should've considered the non-headphone listeners a bit more too. ;) Glad you liked the melodies, and I'll try to make my build-ups more climactic too. Admittedly, the synths are mostly from 3xOsc. XD I really appreciate all the constructive criticism, though, man! Thanks again. :D

It's great. It's got a kind of retro game vibe but with a bit of house music sprinkled on it.Only some people are able to do that an pull it off beautifully and you're on of those people. You just gained yourself a fan.Great work, man.

TaintedLogic responds:

Thanks so much, man! I'm glad you recognized how I like to combine genres. ;D

If you've never listened to any of The Doors' music, you should definitely check them out. Not only do they have badass keys solos and raw rock music, but the lead singer was once arrested after kissing a fan backstage by a cop who didn't recognize him as the frontman of the band about to perform. (That's the one Doors fact I keep around with me in case I meet someone interested in them.)

This is pretty groovy! The bassline is awesome. I wish it had been brought out more! Normally, the clashing organ chords would be a bit jarring, but somehow, they just fit right in this piece. With the weird circus vibe, not only do they feel natural, they bring the other strange melodies out.

Loved the 1:20 transition. I'm realizing more and more how effective silence can be as a musical trope, and you used it really well here. I also really liked the solo drum beat playing at 0:10 and 1:45. I think you could've just started out with that drum beat, but the initial transition into was pretty interesting as well.

As for criticisms, I guess the chord at the end feels a bit unnecessary. Also, I kinda hoped the really groovy bass would carry on in some form into places like 0:33 and 2:24. It sort of just turned into quarter notes, and I dunno, but it feels like there's real potential for some nice bass groove there.

Great song! There's a very different mood here than in most songs, which I enjoy very much. Good work, and have a great 2015! :D

TaintedLogic responds:

Ahh, thanks so much, LunacyEcho! :D I'm glad you like the bassline. It was one of the first riffs I made for the song, but it didn't really fit well with where I wanted the song to go, so I only used it in the intro and re-intro. XD I should've tried to incorporate it more, though, I agree. Glad you liked those chords too. ;) So many people are commenting on the transitions as well! Thanks! Yeah, the chord at the end was a bit lazy...I just felt it needed a quiet and somewhat eerie ending for some reason. That initial drum transition at :10 was the first riff I wrote for the piece, and it really helped me tie this piece together, so I'm glad you liked it! :D Thanks so much again, LE! Happy new year! :)

Hmm, It seems I still made it to the first review, even though I'm late. Maybe I'm not the only one who's busy these times o' year.
I dig this song bruh.
I liked the clashing chords, with the organ and all, especially around 1:39.

What I like about this piece is that it is interesting. The way the organ is introduced both times with the fade in is cool. I can definnitely understand why you put circus is the tags. Even though the beat isn't necessarily circus:y, somehow, the whole of this is. Maybe it's the chord progressions that make this so?

You know what song this reminds me of? It fits well with you old name here on NG. It reminds me of "The Doors - Light My Fire". Probably the organ along with the style.

I like the melodies in this piece too. They are a bit weird, in a good way. The transitions and automation worked really well in this track of yours. Nicely done between 1:20 and 1:24, as well as 1:43-1:45.

The ending was interesting too, and very fitting.

The only thing that bothers me in even the slightest is the intrument quality, which could be better. I'm not going to hold you back for that though! After all, my intruments are nothing to brag about either ;)

Solid piece, albeit weird :'D

TaintedLogic responds:

Ah, thanks so much, Ale! I'm really glad the clashing chords worked out - I've always had mixed reviews when I use clashing chords, and I use them a lot! ;D I agree with your analysis that it's the chord progression that makes it circus-y. Hmm...I have heard of The Doors! I looked up "The Door" on the Internet before choosing it as my username in 2012, and I remember seeing something about an 80s rock band called "The Doors." Also, I believe an old math teacher of mine liked that band. XD I'm glad you liked the melodies and transitions, and I acknowledge your complaints about the instrument quality. Admittedly, all of the synths, including the organ one, are from 3xOsc. Thanks very much for the review, though, LSD! I'll respond to your PM once I get back from New York. My parents made the rather daunting decision to have us spend the week before New Year's here. ;)
