This is an NGADM Round 1 Review:

This track is definitely a huge change of pace when compared to your audition. To be honest, I was surprised that you went in the direction of EDM (not that there’s anything wrong with that)! There are some interesting melodies at work here (1:12 – 1:42 and at 2:09, for example). In fact, I think the portion after 2:09 is the best part of the track; it becomes very upbeat and is quite catchy! The melody in this latter part of the song is a bit generic sounding, but it was stuck in my head for a while after I had finished listening.

I have to be direct with you here, I am not a fan of the synth that you chose to begin your track with. It is a little too loud and harsh, almost as if it is out of place. Then once again at 0:08, the other synth that you introduce suffers from the same fate. When we reach 0:15, we have two very different, and conflicting sounds. This particular pattern (at 0:15) continues until it becomes much too repetitive. The song does break this repetition once it hits the 2:09 mark, but the transition is out of touch with the rest of the track. I can definitely see where you were going with this portion of track, but the execution just wasn't there. The voice that pops up once in a while sounds quite muddy. Is it saying “Let me take over”? Finally, the outro was another repetition but I think that you did a good job fading out each instrument!

Keep in mind that these are only my opinions on your track, and everyone has a different taste. I think you were able to capture some great melodic content here, and with a little more work on production and some tweaks here and there in composition, this could be something great! Keep it up FoA, I am looking forward to what you cook up next! :D

Score: 4.5/10

This is an NGADM Round 1 Review.

5 seconds in and here I am gaping at the TOTAL departure in style from your audition! Colour me surprised. However, don't colour me impressed. I feel like the quality you presented in your audition is far from present in this track, and at the extreme risk of sounding biased, I think you are a lot more proficient at orchestral. I've got quite a few issues with this track but my review space for Round 1 is a bit too limited to address them all, so I'll just mention a few glaring ones. Some transitions are awful. For instance, after a decidedly interesting intro, you transition almost senselessly into a totally different sound. 2:08 is the same story. These abrupt transitions disrupt the flow and simply make the track sound like two or three tracks put together.

On top of that, you have almost nothing interesting that justifies retaining interest in this track. The first half of the track consists of a cliche offbeat bass, blaring gated sawtooth synth, drowned-out lead and repetitive trap-like beat. The second half is a repetitive melody played on a drum beat similar to its former counterpart. There aren't many positive aspects to comment on I'm afraid. On top of that, like your audition, this also lacks dynamics. It feels very samey throughout and simply gets monotonous to listen to. I can hear some interesting melodic stuff, but nothing truly memorable.

I regrettably have to give you a low score for this, but good luck with your future musical endeavours!

Great review :) Love it when someone points out my flaws so I can work on them :D Thanks Step, and have a great time judging the remainder of the NGADM. Also: Thanks for the honesty :)

Nice one! My favorite parts were the lead at 1:12 and the mood change at 2:08 I'm gonna be raving to this all day, haha. Good luck in the contest!

I would say this really isn't house, but that doesn't mean it's any less of an enjoyable song.

The first thing that really surprised me about this song is that there's no kick whatsoever. I was expecting some big drumline to start at the drop, and while I was a bit dissappointed I have to say the lack of a defining bass kick beat actually adds to the song and makes it more enjoyable and engaging.

The song was mastered very well, and the composition itself is very solid.

I'm not good at giving long reviews, but I really like the song and good luck in round one!

FlaggedOnArrival responds:

I like to post my music everywhere and change things up a bit from time to time, I know it's not really house music, but there are a couple more house elements in it than others (all 4 or 5 elements) So I just threw it in this section because the traps, 808's, bass and melodies all kind of remind me of great house songs like Blow from Greg Gelis and Michelle Bradshaw, and Rodion Gordin feat. Dvines -- I'm Alive. (without the vocals and kick, of course)

Thanks for the great review papkee :) It truly is a breath of fresh air to read something that's not "o0o0ohhohoh i Liek it so good!" lol...

oooh :3 love the melody, has a nice flow to it, i like it, good luck on the NGADM'14 !
