'Dub Dayze: The Anthology' is now available on Bandcamp! http://reali-tglitch.bandcamp.com/album/dub-dayze-the-anthology

I originally submitted this as a (WIP) in 2011. I just decided to remaster/rework it as the first feature for the anthology of mine, 'Dub Dayze'.

really nice, its kind of "noisy" in a distorted way, its cool but my ears had to take some time to get used to it, overall, a really good song! Keep up the good work! :D

Ok, so you've got some basics going, but your mix has a bunch of flaws.

Intro: The catchy melody gets my attention, but I'm a bit turned off by the distorted limiting. It makes the song sound uneven and somewhat unpleasant. I guess the only way you could fix that is by going to the bottom with whatever causes the noise (could be a result of exaggerated scooping).

Middle part or something: when the drums kick in I was also a bit ticked off. You seem to have placed the synths and the drums in the same frequency range. As a result, the two instruments are kind of different to separate from each other.
Easy solution:
- kick: boost the volume a bit, maybe sidechain the bass too.
- snare: (preferably) change the sample to something more punchy, boost the low mid freqs, add some compression and a tad of reverb. That way you might erase that sharp, biting sound that is created when hearing the synth and the snare together.

Maybe the mix is purely based on your own style, but from what I know of dubstep, the drums should be mixed way more punchy.

Anyways, keep it up.

Reali-tGlitch responds:

Punchy just doesn't quite fit the theme as well, in my opinion. Space screams less in your face. A good punchy snare is almost always a good thing, though.

I did go back and do some more remastering, hopefully this new version will sound better. I think it does. Balanced those kicks, got rid of some of the clipping, did some serious work with compressors in balancing the mid-range frequencies on the gliding sine synth. Pimpin' ain't easy.

This is pretty sweet! I especially like your unique synths going on.

The only thing that keeps this from being 5 for me is some of the mixing and mastering. Its really kind of muddy. That snare is kind of thick and doesn't go as well with the rest of the song I dont think. Maybe there's just a little too much delay and reverb, its overwhelming to the heavy hits. It gets so busy in the song with the reverb and stuff that you can barely tell what's going on in some parts.

Keep making music sir or madam!

Reali-tGlitch responds:

Sir*

Been at it for 7.5 years, and just decided to remaster a lot of old dubs so I can sell myself out to the industry while I work on my actually new project set to release in December.

I feel it all fits the theme nicely, but I did just go back once more. Hopefully it sounds less muddy, now.
