This is a piece that was performed by a group of friends (Renee Pyne, violin I; Nicole Durham, violin II; Jacob Crosby, viola; and Ben Osterhouse, cello) on my Senior Recital.
This movement, Largo-molto, represents various states of trance-like emotion. The strings work together to create a nearly seamless river of sound that carries the listener gently and gradually through various states of mind that influence each human being. Care is taken to ensure that sections representing joy or sadness do not seem estranged from each other. Rather, the various emotions and states of mind meld together in this work to represent the flow of life.
