I love the climate in which I live in. Shifting seasons with big variation and rain and snow between sunny warm days. I can't say I have a favorite season since everyone needs to be there and compliment each other, but there is something special about the fall.
Many people gets depressed during this season, when days are getting shorter, the cold is coming and a lot of plants go dead and brown, so it's a kind of natural state to go into. But for some reason I get into a calm mood that makes me feel more relaxed and open minded. Like time slows down and it gives me room to breath.

So this song, my second contribution for AIM 2014, is a tribute to the autumn and how beautiful it can be.

I found this piece of art called Adventure by Kris:

...and even though it more looks like winter maybe, to me it looks more like those last days of the fall when the snow has maybe fallen but the temperatures are still not that low.
This northern season atmosphere that is in this art piece gave me the right feelings to start writing this song. So for this one I decided to go to other favorites of mine for inspiration, musicians that originates from these kinds of regions, like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, but also tried to borrow some emotions from Joni Mitchell.

Except for the drums and other rhythmic instruments all instruments are live. One warm tuned down acoustic guitar (tuned down two whole steps), another acoustic guitar played in the “regular” tuning and then tuned down digitally in the software. I also have the woody sound of the clarinet that I got my hands on a while back at a flee market, an instrument from my childhood that is back in my life again. I also added an electric guitar with a capo on the eighth fret to bring out some of harmonies. These sounds shaped this song into what I wanted it to be, and I am very happy with the end result.

Take care!

Lyrics:

Tall grass, dry and cowed, waving like skeletons in a crowed.
Tame and cold, far between goals, season speak wise and proud.

Sparse, sprawling crowns.
The sky it devours.
Colliding hours.

Woven and plowed empty rows.
Stare into white, way to close.
It glows.

Face is bathed in fervor, in rays, the rest goes numb inside the shade.
Wild cascades are petrified sprays, with drops that are left hanging.

The towering crowns
are there to remind us.
Colliding hours.

Woven and plowed empty rows.
Stare into white, way to close.
Singing and cries with the crows.
Amethyst clouds, shadows grows.
Like it knows.

I'm waiting, I'm sure. I could stay here forever.
I'm waiting, breathing. I could stay here, I'm sure, I could stay in the fall.

First song I download off of Newgrounds for later leisurely listening.

You're probably tired of Nirvana comparisons, but it really captures a certain bittersweet vibe that was invaluable to Cobain's success.

That said, it's definitely its own thing and deserves its own praises.

Bravo!

motakay responds:

Wow, dude! Thanks alot! Means alot to me to hear! And I could never get tired of to get compared to mr. Cobain, that is like the best compliment! Thank you, thank you , thank you! :)

The grunge influences all over the place in this song, haha. This is brilliant, mate, professionally mastered and executed, even more so than your previous entry. The only thing I'd point out would be to either let the vocals feel less overdubbed or experiment with a vintage or lo-fi filter and add slight reverb to it. This song has a great structure and progression, and a very "Black Hole Sun" kind of mood. Great job

PS: As a side note, I might consider collaborating with you. ;)

motakay responds:

Thanks a ton! The dub thing was new to me and will I certainly treat it differently in the future. If I would work on it some more I would dub the "Chorus" parts one more time. They sound very paned as they are now.

Cool! Just let me know what you might have in mind and I would love to collaborate sometime. :)

Wow, this sounds great! I think that the biggest thing it reminded me of was alice and chains, but seriously you have some very good vocal harmonies going on.

motakay responds:

Thank you very much! :)

Dude. This was amazing. Coming from a huge alice fan, I loved the harmonies and the dissidence. It was very refreshing. The recording was awesome. The lyrics are fantastic with the melody reminding me a lot of Incubus.Top notch man. If you are into this kind of music you should check me out. I think you'd like what I do as well.

motakay responds:

Thanks man! Love Alice as well! I'll check out your songs! :D
