This is the art I selected:

Arc Valley Reflection, by Kamikaya

I had help from Johnfn and the people who reviewed the song preview I posted earlier this week. Thankyou.

I attempted to create ocean wave sounds by using white noise. There are a couple minor filters on it and it's eq'd.

I don't own many good drum samples, so I had to used what I had available. I think it sounds decent though.

I liked it. I have used it in a video I made about a recent geocaching outing with friends. You can see the video at:

I also used Powerful Dream during the credits. Thanks for producing this music and making it available.

It's definitely not what I'd consider a bad effort at all, and it manages to be enjoyable in its simplicity. I think it would be rather inappropriate to judge a song just by the samples used, although the quality of the samples themselves may bring some more immersion in a melody or an atmosphere or whatever else you can think of. It's also true that one can have the best samples in the world and still make something flat and unoriginal, so it's kind of a "touchy" matter shrouded in subjectivity.

Nonetheless, it's a pretty chill track that doesn't strive for complicated structures or over-the-top melodies, it's really what you hear is what you get. So why am I giving 3.5 stars? Well, first of all I would have loved some variation on the theme, perhaps by introducing other melodies and counter-melodies, something that also created harmony between the instruments and didn't just limit themselves to duel in different octaves.

More background ambiances and synths would have felt nice since it's already a pretty ambient-oriented sound and perhaps a watery atmosphere could have enhanced the basic structure of this piece. The sound effects used are nice and they do give an ocean-like feel that also help smoothing the transitions between each section.

I suggest you to just try achieving a more engaging sound while keeping the simple approach you've used for this piece, and try bringing slightly more variations on both the melody and instrumentation. Overall, nice work.

I agree with you. I always hesitate to add variation to my melodies, because I personally think too much variation can ruin a song. I need to work on finding the right balance.

I used to love adding background sounds but some people didn't like it so I stopped. I'm not sure what to do in this situation.

Thank you for the review!

I really like it. The samples could certainly be better but they have a charm to them. I don't know, I just felt good listening to it! Good job!

Sorry not a big fan of the synths used in this. The drum samples aren't really that bad ,but the synths dosen't seem to fit the song at all. They don't seem to be very well eq'd and the sounds.
The two synths I especially disliked was the one at the very beginning and the one that comes in at about 00:30. They just sound a bit wierd.
Other than that the track is pretty chill. Could use some more variation, but the melody is good, sweet and soothing which really brings my rating up alot.
If the question was if I liked the track or not I would say that I loved, but I pretty much love every melody I've never heard before so I'm afraid I can't give you a full score only cuz I love it.
If you just tweaked this a little bit it could be absolutely amazing :).

As it is now I'll give you a 3.5. Keep making music :D, your awesome and I wish I was able to make tracks like this :).

I love the synths I made and I think the guitar one actually sounds good, but I understand why you feel they did not fit the song. I should have used non electronic instruments.

As always, I like the melodies, and that instrument at the beginning fit well. I thought you overused the sweeps a bit, though. I liked the beat, as well as the structure and transitions, but feel like that guitar sample didn't sound as authentic as it could've. If you used FL Slayer, I don't blame you! It's hard to get a very organic sound from plug-ins like those. I appreciate that you're trying to expand you knowledge of music to different genres, but in general it was a very simple tune, especially from 2:12 to 2:55. I felt like the piano chords could've been a bit more pronounced throughout, and the ending was a little sudden and inconclusive. It does capture the art very well, though. Good luck in the competition! :D

I don't agree with this comment, but thanks for being honest despite being the minority in the reviewers for this song.

" If you used FL Slayer, I don't blame you! It's hard to get a very organic sound from plug-ins like those"
I did not use FL Slayer. I did try it like you told me to, but I honestly think the guitar synth I used in this song is better than anything I can make in FL Slayer.

"but in general it was a very simple tune, especially from 2:12 to 2:55."
I agree the melody from 2:12 to 2:55 was very simple, but the other melodies weren't nearly as simple in my opinion. I think these melodies have some of the best display of emotion out of all the melodies I created so far. Most of my melodies are created from me doing random things, but these melodies were thought out for a very long time.

" I felt like the piano chords could've been a bit more pronounced throughout"
Sorry, I don't understand this comment :( Do you mean it should have been more noticeable?

" and the ending was a little sudden and inconclusive."
I thought the ending was extremely conclusive, especially with the last melody. I think what may have bothered you was the fact that I used an automation clip to quickly fade out the volume on the last note.

Thank you for the review!
