0___o @ Submission date....why the fuck didn't i find this one earlier?!?

Wow

NO matter how man times I hear this I still love it. I thought I reviewed this already but hey oh well. I really love the bells in this. They are used frequently but they don't get boring. I do agree with Arbiter that you should have had a contrabass going. I love the strings and the piano was great. I hope you get the time to work on more orchestral tracks soon.

Slayer-of-trolls responds:

Thanks alot man. Sorry for the late reply... Yeah, I've give orchestral music a break for abit to focus on more guitar oriented stuff. Orchestral takes alot of time but I'm defintely gonna make some more soon.

First Impression; "This can get interesting".
I like your use of bells, reminds of me of MaestroSorrow's fetish for those things.
What I believe was your strongest essence in this piece was actually your string work, they didn't sound too washed out as most Edirol Strings do.
I recognize these things.
I believe you should have had a contrabass in the deep octaves to have a steady line so you wouldn't get the empty holes.
That's the con of this song.
It doesn't really go any far, and has little variety.

I believe at point your string section's came in, you should have done a Timpani-Roll continued by some slow and dark percussionate works to compliment the bells and the strings.
The piano should have been sustained, and in a lower octave, as well as perhaps having some chord-left hand.

Do not at any circumstances believe that I dislike your music, as I don't.
I just felt that you didn't quite finish this one.
I believe you should have used the fullstrings a bit more, as well.

As for my samples, I've been using various soundfonts for percussion, as well as GigaStudio 3.0 for the two first song's percussion.
What you heard in "War of The Mice" is actually the same sample package as you use.
Edirol HQ Orchestra, legally of course.

Slayer-of-trolls responds:

Thanks for the review and sorry for the late reply. I'm actually using a different sample set for the this one but still thanks for the advice. I've got a few more pieces in the works. Do you have MSN?

Great remake!

Damn...I already voted on the other piece...The hell only knows why I didn't left a review back then. >:(

To the track itself. As the title says...GREAT remake. Better instruments and better sound for sure!

The bells kinda remind me of "secret of mana". ^^

I'm not really a man who can criticize classical music...you know why. ;) But my ears say this was a pleasure and my head says 5 up for great justice! :D

Slayer-of-trolls responds:

Thanks alot for the vote & review. You gotta tell me what your MSN is...

Awesome

Hello Killer_of_trolls

lets begin our review by analysing mood and atmosphere the song presents.

Those tubelar bells introduction serves to make for a good ominious feeling. At that point I was thinking he could go all holy dark, or tense dark, and when the strings clicked into place right away the tense harmony came into being.

I like the string/bells combo, they wack a good wallop together. The mood is definatly set in.

Lets talk about instruments and melody works

The piano in the background of those bells, at the beginning, and again near 1:18, I question myself, what would they sound like, if they were softened. I think right now they're a tad too harsh.

If you cut their velocity to half, and copy pasted like 5 times, you'd get a softer, and more "reverbed" kind of feel, which I think may serve a better purpose. It's not a professional trick, but one I use from time to time ;).

I like the various strings, you've used different elements from different strings sections to really drive a unique feeling home. Especially around 0:48 with those strings there, they really worked well.

I know this is an older piece, still I think you overused those bells, they work great, but near the middle you have them loop I think 4 or so times, it makes them lose their power.

The only thing I can think of adding to this song would be slow string chords, not so much as to add melody or mood, but as a foundation assistance, to enhance the other instrments.

Thats all I can think of for now Killer_of_trolls. Good stuff man, keep them coming ^^. Glad to see you still submitting.

Slayer-of-trolls responds:

Yeah, I really like this piece. I think it does set a dark, tense mood. I do have a few more ideas on what to do with this mainly adding some more strings at around the :49 mark.

Thanks for the review soulstrings. I've listen to all your music already and enjoy it.
