Hi!

I'm back to give you guys the 2014 revisit to one of my most popular tracks ever. Why did I revisit it? Because I decided to release a mini EP for the 3 songs I've made for Cry! Time Shift is available for purchase on Bandcamp right here: http://dylnmatrix.bandcamp.com/album/time-shift (Yes, I do know I already released Time Shift, but I wanted to give his fans more)

While remastering this track...I realized that I really don't give this song the credit it deserves. Sure the production sucked back then but god damn, I'm really proud of the composition. Simple, yet effective, and I didn't realize it. It also shows how much I've changed in my compositional ways and just in general when it comes to writing music.

In other news, I'm completely burnt out at the moment and haven't been able to kickstart any new projects, so I've decided to go back and remaster some of my favorite tracks that I've made in the past, and remaster some of the tracks that desperately need it to be enjoyed.

Alright, back to lurking. Bye!

Hi DM! :D I like the synths and the beats, and I think your mixing has improved a lot over the past year or so. I thought the intro was a little long, though. In general, it seemed very drawn out and repetitive. I'd challenge you to shorten the first 2-2.5 minutes into 45-60 seconds. I like the structure and transitions, but I think it needed more substance and melodic variation overall. I liked that you started adding some more instruments in there around 4 minutes in, though. However, the ending was a little lack-luster imo, and I think the harmonic structure is very simple overall. It's okay to make it simple, but if it IS simple it really shouldn't be 6 minutes long...3 or 4 tops, I'd think. Overall, though, I liked the melodies and the structural elements. Nice job, Matt, and hope I'll hear from you again soon! ;D

Dylnmatrix responds:

I definitely agree with you on everything. While I am proud of the composition of the melodies (simple yet effective in my head), this is a piece I definitely look back and criticize my self with. It just...somehow got really, really popular (over 8000 views and counting on Youtube...) and it's what pushed me to get better. The outro in this sucks, and the length is unnecessary, but hey, I barely touched the old composition. I just added some kick transitions and builds and took out muddying elements.

This track was originally made back in 2012...back before I actually started writing more complex melodies. All I could write were these simple melodies, using this structure and only Sytrus, which was the best thing that came with my unofficial copy of FL (I do officially own it now though). It was with Dancing With Death that I started to step out of my comfort shell and find my groove. So if this seems like a step backwards, I'm not surprised at all. Time Shift is definitely the masterpiece out of the three, but I still don't think it will ever get as popular as this has been.

Thanks for the review man.
