I'm not nearly as experienced as SoundChris is, however I do agree with his comment that you should definitely try to use the lower frequencies more in the piece when it gets into the epic stage. I must say though, your intro really wowed me. It has a really beautiful sound to it. I'd almost like to hear a different version of this piece that doesn't get epic, and instead stays soft and melodic. Although I wouldn't expect you to write such a thing just for me, just in the future, I'd love to hear you come out with a full piece written like how you wrote the intro to this song, I think that'd be awesome. I guess this means you get my follow then, cause I'm looking forward to hearing more :D

Thank you for your suggestion. It's interesting. I'm working on a piano+violin piece right now, and I was planning to make it more "epic" at some point again, but after reading what you wrote, maybe I will just keep it soft and melodic throughout. Hmmm, interesting suggestion :) I will think about it.

I might also post some of my older music here. They are more lighter - more like ambient music. It's different style for sure, but maybe some people will like them.

Some very good appendages. The combination of solo cello and harp is well chosen. What could have been better in my opinion is the melodic work inside the harp. It feels a little bit random. The same goes for the spiccato violin action.

The percussion works very well. What would make this piece much more epic is the insertion of very loud and epic bass drums. The bass frequencies are almost unused in this piece. If you compose there is a simple trick to get a very broad sound: Try always to use the full frequency spectrum. That will guarantee a full lush sound.

The violins could need a little bit more reverb. I know - violins are located quite in front, so normally you dont need much reverb for them - otherwise it could become muddy. But here the piece is very transparent and the violins are spotlighted. Thats the reason why i would use more reverb or add some additional instruments to fill the space.

Also try to use the full dynamic power (pp --> ff). What should be always inserted in epic orchestra pieces are: Cymbals and orchestra tubular. The usage of the triangle was good!

Also flute runs in the higher regions would improve the piece. Also i think there should be a climax in the piece.

Hope this was useful for you. Overall good work!

cadence1 responds:

Thank you for taking the time to write this - I really appreciate. This must be the most useful review I have ever got for my tune. Thank you very much for your pointers and I will keep them in mind when composing my future tunes!
