so sober, you can hear how quantized it is

just one instrument (some sort of vibes, as is my preference) playing some notes & rhythms & chords, there is some pretty cool interaction between all the voices in the part, since I didn't incorporate any realistic instrument restrictions

some standard complementary percussion in the latter half

its pretty good, but it feels a little empty. i feel like it wouldve benefitted from having the beat start earlier and having amore rich climax with maybe some longer notes in the background, to shape a more solid ground for the line you had going, if that makes sense. and then a bass of some kind. and upright bass or something similar.
while at the same time i dont really know much about this style of music so i might just be misunderstanding the point-
none the less it still feels a little empty.

OcularNebula responds:

you're absolutely right

a bass would have been nice, and I tried adding some sparse percussion to the first half, but they ended up obscuring the vibes a bit too much for my liking, so I took them out

the problem I think is that the vibes themselves are quite weak sounding, so they can't really compete with any additional instruments unless they are really subtle as well, which is certainly a limitation of this piece

good review, and your own productions sound very nice!

Fun to pull out ye old F hole guitar and jam along. Loving it.

Any meaning behind the title? All I know is is that Sol is Latin for Sun. By the way, neat solo. I'm thinking of early Gran Turismo on this one, and dat snare is so full of ghost notes, I could call it Paul Walker. BOOOOMM!!!

OcularNebula responds:

the title is relatively meaningless, I was just going for an alliterated fictional name

for the percussion pattern, I just spliced a couple of sample loops together, got some cool snare hits in there, I guess

most of your other references are sorta lost on me, like ghost notes and Paul Walker? cuz... cuz he's dead? ...like a ghost? topical, lol
