Random music that sprouts one day. Usually it would stay as an experimental piece, but I felt it would be a shame if this one weren't promoted to a full piece.

This is mostly aggrotech, but some small elements from other genres are mixed in. The feel is a bit confusing, but as long as it sounds good. o3o

The title is random btw.

Hi, seen the forum, my honest review:

You don't have to peak to create clean distortion (yes clean distortion seems strange).

I downloaded the mp3, waveform is a white rectangle, which means it's peaking all the time.

Distortion created from peaking in order to sound louder should be avoided.
It's a makeup effect, damage control if you prefer.

Some of these tracks have heavier distortion than yours, yet they don't peak, and don't destroy my ears on the long run.

BUT! Overall the track is VERY good!
Should the clipping be gone, i'd vote 4/5 no hesitation.
It's more of a technical matter than the artistic quality of your song really!
The style reminds me of Mortal Kombat theme.
So, you can achieve the exact same distortion without peaking and it would be much more pleasurable for everyone.
Please consider fine tuning it, you don't have to change a lot of things in fact, just adjust the volume so it does not peak on the master track. Your song has great potential, let me know if you make another version.
Bye, have fun!

Thanks a lot, Daru925! It's good to know exactly where I went wrong. I'll keep this as a learning point for future projects.

Hey Essence, I saw your post on the forums so I thought I'd give you some feedback about the song!
I think you have some neat riffs here, particularly the main theme that begins the track and the one that shifts at 2:08, but I believe the main reason the song is getting negative ratings is because of the distortion.
There is peaking in nearly every sequence and makes it, at times, a little unbearable to listen to (not because of the quality of the music, but the audio quality itself!). I would recommend playing around with the dynamics of the song, fine tuning it with perhaps a compressor, and seeing if that reduces any overdrive with your volume. :)

EssenceOfScience responds:

Thanks for the response headphoamz, that was quite refreshing :)
I had aimed to use the distortion as an effect to give the music that dirty quality; quite a few of the instruments are purposely overdriven or compressed. It could be that I overdid it because I had to switch to earphones after my headset broke, and I don't know if that affected how much distortion I can hear on my end.

I do agree that I can play with dynamics a little more though, it's not something I am used to doing yet and I also found out how powerful it could be.

Again, thanks for the feedback :D
