Facing Death at Sea

Author Comments

On the wide dark blue sea, a legendary monster called Rethnok kills and rips apart any human vessel that approaches. Few dare head out anymore, but some brave or stupid individuals take on the challenge but none have yet to take it down.

Rethnok has four giant horns, a head not unlike a skull, jaws like a shark and screams so loud his victims lose their hearing before their lives.

This is a truly epic battle track! Do you have a picture of the said monster in your description? If not, you should draw it out and post it. It sounds really horrific! Great job!

DanJohansen responds:

Thanks Kite! 2 years later and still appreciate your review!

I could see me struggling with what ever Boss fish this music is accompanied by,I could imagine hearing its drowned guttural roar Break out as a soldier on deck cries out to warn my character of an impending and very hard to dodge attack, that would most likely involve some ridiculous Hydropump laser thing, that would take like a 3rd of my health. All the while wonder what the hell to do as far as hurting this leviathan...Just made ma self alittle frustrated just thinking about it.
Well done-

DanJohansen responds:

AWESOME description good sir, 2 years I haven't noticed this awesome visual description by you, preciate it man! :D

This is madness: a blood-pumping, chaotic track with an explosive orchestral sound. Love it!
My favourite element of the music has to be the shouting choral voices that lie in the background alongside the rolling percussion. It adds a militaristic feel, as if the voices are yelling soldiers/warriors aboard a turbulent vessel. The introduction always strikes me hard as well: the music represents the reveal or appearance of a gigantic, unstoppable beast in its watery domain very vividly.
This also reminds me of the music used for the battle with Poseidon in God of War III ('Poseidon's Wrath', I think it's called) and that was indescribably intense both in audio and visual effect.
Another triumph, Dan. Keep it up!
5/5

DanJohansen responds:

bwhaha EPIC review man, I loved reading that, I guess it has a bit militaristic feel due to the snare work. Since I come from Rock and Metal roots I can't help but going for snares etc.
Poseidon's Wrath was an awesome track and that battle is also one of the coolest scenes in the GOW series I think.

Glad you dug it man!

Has a great Nordic touch to it, in my opinion.

DanJohansen responds:

UGH UGH!! lol Glad you dig it man!

Awesome.
Were you perhaps inspired by Carach Angren?

DanJohansen responds:

Never heard of this person? or band? They make symphonic music as well?
