About the title..
''Hegira'' is a word and means ''a journey, especially when undertaken to escape from a dangerous or undesirable situation''

I love the intro, puts me in a serious mood, ready to fuck shit up. Seriously makes me want to find a retro side-scroller and play that for 4 hours non-stop.

The multiple melodies blend together excellently, the rhythms are perfect, there is nothing I can critique in this song. 5/5 downloaded, I can learn from this song.

Thanks, i appreciate it! :)
I'm glad you like it so much and if you could even take something from this song to implement in your own song(s), that would be awesome.

Long time no New Grounds! ^^ Still love the work & you sound better than ever!! & I have a story about your music again because your composing is just that good.

The beginning sounds like waking up & being confused, & the 8-bit sound makes me think electrical. Sounds like a mech waking up in the depths of a deep-woods & it just processes its functionality and surroundings for a bit (has water damage & some abilities are short-circuited). It then starts the long journey of having to fight its way through the vicious inhabitants of the woods to escape, and heading off to a scientific-looking research facility on a cliff where it will presumably be returning home.
Once the facility is reached, the mech reaches the center, where there are scientists waiting. The mech opens up & a person is dropped out. The person then sprints out of the room, followed by other drones, & down the corridor towards light. There's a window, an escape route, but a mech steps out of a side door next to the window & blocks it. 2:59ish is when the person crashes through the glass of the building & plummets down the side of the cliff and into the sea with the mech.

Thank you! Nice review and story :)

Holy fucking fuck, it's so harmonious.

I don't know what "BreatheLeoda" is talking about, KEEP the drums. Fuck, make them MORE real-sounding, they're excellent. Samples are entirely personal preference. You can't please everyone with your drums no matter what you do... But they fit right in with the synth composition which is, while not "traditional", varied and functional. I agree that a bit of 'verb and maybe a light (or heavy) chorus-effect on a few of the instruments could go a long way.

I feel like the thing I like most about this is the actual composition of the piece. The note selection in relation to melodies and rhythmic moving dynamics... I don't know if that makes sense but it's staggeringly shmexy. I'm sure this took quite a bit to put together, so I downloaded it as a token of appreciation for this being a freakishly cool work.

FairSquare responds:

Thanks man! And yeah.. i like composing more than all that mixing and mastering stuff :p
I'm glad you like the drums. I do too.
But really, thanks for the feedback, i appreciate it!

Nice experimental work.

FairSquare responds:

Nice experimental review

This is some pretty bubbly music. The composition is pretty great, the drums have a great stereo sound, and the synthesizers are all mixed very well together.

However, the sound generation seems to be lacking - some synths may need more reverb and delay, it feels a little empty. You could try out Glitch 2, a new effect VST that might add a little more character to your mix if used in moderation. Additionally, the drums are a little too real for a genre like this. Either add some distortion/bitcrusher, or try a different drumkit entirely.

Sounds pretty solid composition wise though. It would work great in an RPGMaker or Flash game driven on point-and-click or RPG platforms.

Now this is a helpful review! Thanks :)
I'll try out the things you said.
The only point i don't agree with you on are the drums. Because i don't really make a specific genre, i just make what i like.. and i like the drums this way :) I can experiment with some distortion or bitcrusher though ^_^
Again, thanks!
