Originally I made this for the second round of N G M T 13. We had 3 days to create a song with a biodome feel. I had only 2 days I could work on this, but in the two days I made two songs. This one, that I didn't end up using, and another one that I submitted. I didn't get any votes for the other song, because people didn't think it suited the theme enough because it was too happy. This one isn't happy in any case, but we'll never know if I would've gotten any votes if I had submitted this one instead. Oh yeah, this song has a 5/4 time signature and a Persian scale (I think).

[edit 19 februari 2016] complete overhaul of the song. No changes in terms of melody or composition, but a lot of the mixing has been changed to create a darker more complex sound. Effects were changed and added.

SourJovis responds:

Is this the song you mentioned before? Very interesting. The pads you used are very uplifting. Perhaps the mallet/vibraphone could be a bit louder. Rest of the piece has no complain from me. Well done.

SourJovis responds:

Yes it is. Nice of you to remember. All instruments are synthetic (except for the gong, that's just bit crushed). I'm not entirely sure which instrument you mean by mallet vibraphone. Perhaps the things that start at 1:23. I wanted to make that sound like a woodwind section. Maybe I'll layer a sine wave or two with it to make it more stand out. Sine waves sound a little like flutes compared to other synthetic sounds. They have that same gentleness. Thanks for the review.

Song takes quite a while to build up into anything. But once the drums kick in it gets a tad more interesting. I like the little choir sounds you have going, it helps build an Egyptian type sound. I'm not sure how I feel about the section that starts at 2:30, it builds a dissonance but I don't think it works too well here. It might just be because of the way it was transitioned to, I'm not quite sure. It does help with that eastern type sound though. Its a good start, but I think you should try adding a melody over that to keep it a bit more interesting.

SourJovis responds:

Yeah, I took a long time to build up to make you get used to the melody, since the scale and metre are so unusual. Maybe a counter melody after 2:30 would make it more interesting. I tried that. But it will make it more dissonant though, and you said it was already dissonant enough. I think there is already enough going on in the song as it is to make it sound interesting. Counter melodies might only distract from the main melodies which are already hard enough to grasp. I'll think about how to improve the song.
