My submission for the Art-Inspired Music (Aim) Contest!

Gah, worked so hard on this one. So many hours! (mostly recording the guitar parts over and over until I was satisfied...and of course, those things called transitions)

So I really, really liked the piece of art that inspired me...titled "Waterfallcitytower" Here's your link to that awesomeness - http://goo.gl/bWdJb

What are you waiting for? Go to that link, now! Your eyes won't be let down. Take a good look at it before or while you listen...

And NOW...for the story! Since I don't often write my tracks as 'songs', here's something to go alongside the picture, as well:

----------

It hits you. You've decided to go time-traveling, because you have been granted those awesome powers... in the form of nothing less than.. a vehicle! But a special one, at that - for it is you that has built it!

And so, you hop in, and this is where the music starts: two seconds later, by the time the melody hits, you are thrust into the future. You fly through the lively and fascinating parts of town, along with the not-so-lively and fascinating parts, of course, simply minding your own business. You are pretty cool with what you see.

(0:37) But...then! You arrive downtown - and are immediately exposed to the blue-tinged city view from above, straight from the perspective of the original painting. Everything is so high! You see just how vast the scape is, what the atmosphere is like, and the array of new technology that surrounds you so nonchalantly, perpetually unaware of your relentless bliss and wonder. You take in every little detail as the hugeness overwhelms you, tickling your senses with curious delight and awe.

(1:03) Then... you take yourself on a smaller-scale tour around the new city to see just what this 'future' holds. The shops, the businesses, a few upscale-looking residences - little do you know that those are actually cheap apartments, in this decade - and even the few trees you see have an alluring, futuristic look to them. All of this leaves you amazed, and without words to express your feels. Thus, the music does the talking for you... and while your eyes transfer to your mind all the newness, you make sure not to miss a thing.

(1:48) Once all that's done, after you've thoroughly taken in the busiest and most foreign parts of town - and run into some not very friendly and rather unappreciative (not to mention, suspicious) city dwellers - you decide it's time to take your leave. So you get back into your vehicle-like time machine and head home, eager to tell the people of your time about the glorious things you've seen. Unfortunately, the ride home causes your rather poorly-designed time machine to break down from the stress of its first time in use, and people are skeptical of the stories you tell. Still, dismay is nowhere to be seen on your face - you are still too energized from the whole experience!

(2:35) It soon becomes dark out, and the time for sleep has come; you lie alone, mind filled yet again with the wonders of the day that passed, knowing, as you drift off into oblivion, that the next time you are able to visit that future again won't be too far away...

---------

Hope you liked the music, and story. Constructive critique, random thoughts, and/or general feedback are all super greatly appreciated.

Thanks, glad you like!

Pretty futuristic sound! Fits well to both the image and your description. It's nice to come across another who's very audio-visual when making some instrumentals. :D

Good mix; really interesting melodies and harmonies. Oh, almost forgot--the guitar playing! It surprisingly blended well with everything else. I also like how you did the intro--it launches the listener right into the track. Great work!

alternativesolution responds:

Thanks! Especially glad to hear you're digging the intro. Yeah, audio-visual connection is simply the best!

I decided to listen to one of your thingies to somewhat pay you back for all the hard work you did on NGADM! I GET TO JUDGE THE JUDGES HAHAH (Um... and I realize that giving one skimpy review is hardly sufficient pay back... haha)

That beginning really took me aback. As bizarre and offputting as the glitching is, it's also refreshingly unique, so I like it.

The drums are really bizarre, but not in a jarring way. I really enjoy the open high hats (I think?) that fade in and out.

The mixing is really nicely done. Not much to complain about. The instrumentation is really unique. Futuristic, but in a way that is still essentially human.

The melodies need a lot of work though imo. They seem kinda random.

To be honest I wasn't very convinced by this song until about 2:00 when the acoustic guitar came in. I really liked that idea and wanted to hear a lot more of it. Maybe some sort of sweet futuristic jam idk.

So yeah. Trim other stuff, take acoustic guitar section and run with it because I love it. :)

alternativesolution responds:

Whoa! Sorry for such a late response. Thanks for the review, I appreciate it, dude :)
