Monochromaticity

This was my piece for the 1st phase of the NGMT '13, with the theme of "Monochromatic World". I should also mention that the theme was also "simple"- meaning no more than 4 instruments total. This is also the second NEW piece I've posted in 2 years... :P

So here it is, in its E minor glory and all.

About the length.. This was my second attempt, and I kind of forgot to hit "stop" when recording... but then I couldn't bring myself to cut out any more parts once it had reached about 8 minutes. So it remains just under 6 minutes.

That all aside, I hope you like the ambiance. :)

Wow dude, very nice!

Edit: having a second listen to give a fuller review.

The track starts off quite bleak, and somewhat entrenched in thought. Would be perfect for a movie or short sketch of a dude trying to solve a mystery or puzzle of sorts.

I quite like the panning you got going on. Usually not a fan of constant panning especially on main instruments but this works well, especially for example around the 2 min mark where a more central element jumps in.

Very ambient and lowkey piece. Reminds me a lot of the ambient tracks from the Breaking Point mod for Arma 3.

Would definitely fit into a mystery game too. Good stuff and well played.

Thanks so much for your review, this means a lot. :)

Very sad, kind of confusing lol, but I liked it a lot

awesome just downloaded to my ipod great music to put on loop why trying to go to sleep

alternativesolution responds:

Thanks man, glad you liked!

i think this was one of my favourites in the thingy that you made this for. it could certainly benefit from a busier arrangement (maybe just a couple extra strings/woodwinds?), but i like how cold everything sounds... makes the few bright parts really stand out.

alternativesolution responds:

Great! :D I'm really glad you like it. It does sound cold, doesn't it? I find its emptiness somewhat despairing, but close to nonchalant, as well. It's weird. I actually added the piano much later, and I'm glad I did... Thanks so much for the feedback!

Sounds rather mysterious with the background noise and the distant dim instruments. The panning works also well. It definitely has me thinking about grey. Even if i wouldn't know the theme for the contest. Though the piano and guitar themselves sound more geyish brown to me. Monochromatic as can be.

alternativesolution responds:

Glad I was able to fit the theme, it looks like. Thank you for your review~!
