My laying down vocals to Tremulos's "Maleficent Design"
Check out his other tunes, they kick ass.

This is inspired from the freak-outs I would have from getting no sleep, then heading to work as a meat cutter. I get started early in the morning, before my store opens. so all but the emergency lights are off, to save power until business hours.

Me in my cold, lonely, dark and quiet meat box.

The hardest part for me was EQ-ing this . . I'm using Audacity.
Tips and critique appreciated, cause I have ZERO experience recording or mixing.

From the corners of my eyes I see you waiting, watching.
Hairs stand and I shiver, but I know you can't be real.

Sleepless nights, not a wink, that's how you came to be.
A figment of my overactive creativity.

I see you staring but I don't return the gaze, cause then you're gone.

I can't escape my own mind. I can't escape my own mind.

You keep me awake but you're here because I can't sleep.

I can't win. I'm the helpless creator, with
eyes wide open under the sheets.

I see your eyes in a distant corner.
I feel your breath against my skin.

I hear you laugh when I close my eyes.
I feel your gaze, laid upon me.

You take me away.
Take me away.

Didn't like the song but you had a cool name for it.

I like this as much as the remastered version. Nice work.

This is pretty sick! I dig it, nice collab.
Vocals are always a tough mix when working someone else's music. Everything kinda has to be panned away from the front center, otherwise frequencies start to collide, causing clipping or quieter vocals in those spots.

I don't use audacity, I use a really old program for vocals,(cool edit pro) as it has rad vocal compression settings that are presets. Some of the best I've ever seen. Even in the studio we recorded our album, vocals were compressed in cool edit, then sent over to pro tools.

I use two different presets when overlapping/backup vocals too. This keeps them cleanly separated but well blended.

But that's me. Sounds pretty rad, what you got going on here. Cheers man, great shit.

Thanks for taking the time to review!

Very helpful tip on the volume panning . . . it'll definitely change how I tackle mixing!

Holy shit, this song is a lot better with your vocals. Nice work! This wasn't my most well mixed song so sorry about that, haha. You did well though, and the lyrics kick ass, though I'm sure the inspiration for them isn't much fun.

As far as tips on the mixing go, it sounds like maybe the volume of the song itself could be a little bit quieter to give your vocals more room. Still sounds great anyways though. Awesome stuff!

PhallicNinja responds:

Thanks bud =) yeah this is the first test of my new equipment.

Lookin forward to working with you more!!
