The last review says it all, not much I can add to it haha. The song is very well written bro, I've seen a progression in your sound over the last few months, and its awesome to see. Keep it up guys, I really like this track, very old-school thrash inspired, which is what people are looking for. Only thing you need to work on is the production side of things, but you're really close on that man. The rhythm may be a slight bit sloppy, nothing really noticeable to the untrained ear, pretty much the same things I notice in my own playing. haha. That'll get better over time, the more you play. Fucking thrash!
Maaattt!!! Really glad to see another review from you man, it's been months since you've reviewed any of my tracks. Yeah man, I've changed a lot since you reviewed Surrounded by Darkness in 2011. Hell, like you said, even in the past few months, I've made a lot of progress. Yeah, I know what you mean, I hear a few mistakes in a few riffs, but yeah, nothing too noticeable, at least not to anyone paying enough attention. :P And yeah man, as you can tell, this was meant to sound very old school. 80's thrash sound indeed. Yeah, production is pretty much my weak point in music, but i'm getting better with that. Thanks for the review, man! Fucking thrash!! \m/
I can tell that a lot of effort went into this, and I can certainly tell it was inspired by Metallica, and some of the other old school harder metal guys. The only thing that I could say negatively is that the guitars seemed like they had a bit too much compression on them in the mix. I would bring the the threshold down a bit, and maybe boost the gain a little.
The drum and Bass, and vocals came through really good imo. It just seems like the guitar is "seperate" for some reason. Like it isn't well in the mix. May I ask if you are doing an effect in your DAW that "doubles" the guitar track? If so, I would recommend playing two tracks separately, and then adding them on the left and right channels respectively.
That would be my small bit of advice on the guitars. BUT MAN!!! What a fucking awesome metal song. It take me back man. When I was playing a Tennis racket instead of a guitar headbanging in my room with my brother. lol...
Awesome job man,
Awesome man, thanks for your thorough review! Yeah, Metallica is one of my biggest influences. Same with Testament, Slayer, Pantera etc. You can definitely hear the Master of Puppets influence on this song lol. I do get what you're saying about the guitar. The volume kind of shifts around because of the over compression, and yeah, I know exactly what you mean by the "separate" sound. I remember when I first started using real bass instead of synth bass, I had trouble getting it to mix well, instead, it felt out of the song. anyways, about the guitar sounding like that, I can definitely do some work to make it sound better. Yeah, I have a habit of turning the threshold all the way up, probably not the brightest mastering idea. And yeah, I use a preset that doubles the sound by default. I've actually been wanting to double track for the longest time now, but I've been too lazy to lol.
And haha! I'm really glad that this song strikes some memories in you! Thanks for your review man!
man, that is one fantastic vocalist. the groupies must be all over that guy. hahaha
good job, dudeman. it's a good song. had a lot of fun working with it.
I know right? I wonder who sang that? Whoever did it must never be able to escape the groupie attacks!
Thanks man, good job to you too, I also had a lot of fun doing it. You're awesome, and keep on! \m/
