Death and Rebirth

Where to begin...

Well, this song is for Bosa's "Dreams of Splendor" contest. I set out to write something meaningful, something that had substance and was truly a reflection of who I am. I will give what I intended to convey through the music, though by no means is it limited to the following:

_________________

Life, the beginning. Beautiful, full of joy and light, but still fraught with moments of peril and suffering. It is a journey that is incomplete, a path that you cannot reach the end of without taking a leap into the unknown.

Death, noted especially by the horns. It is somber, yet contains the hope of something greater than itself and all that came before it.

Rebirth, the culmination of life and death. All is seen unveiled, life in its truest and fullest sense. What once was imperfect is now perfect, what once was broken is now whole.

____________________

This song is about life, death, and rebirth. It is about putting away one's former way of life and embracing something even more beautiful. This song is about love, sacrifice, and baptism.

This all being said, please take it as you will. That's the beautiful thing about music - what you get out of this piece may be entirely different than I intended, yet still relevant and good.

I had originally intended on adding lyrics to this piece, but in the end decided not to include them. I will, however, include the relevant lyrics here:

Dreams fade, hope remains
Falling into endless night a light is
Calling me beyond the grave

I am a formless wasteland
Let there be
I am a formless wasteland
Breathe life into me
Set fire to my soul

When violent storms surround me
The earth cries out in pain
The heavens fold around me
Will I ever be the same

Don't let me be the same

Sing, my soul!
Sing, my soul!

bassfiddlejones responds:

Thank you kindly :D

Wow.

This is an incredibly subtle and moving piece. Your use of dynamics in the orchestration is quite effectively done, and the progression throughout the song is as I said, moving. Your mission to write something meaningful is most definitely achieved; I'll be honest, I got goosebumps.

The lyrics are very relevant and moving as well, though I couldn't really imagine what type of vocals would fit into the song, so I'm kind of glad you simply left them in written form.

This is some seriously good cinematic music right here. I could easily imagine it in a dramatic movie; suddenly it reminds me of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Book of Eli, which both have excellent musical scores. This is a beautiful song that not only showcases your talent, but also moves the listener's emotions. Awesome.

bassfiddlejones responds:

Thank you for the kind words and for taking time to review, it truly does mean a lot.

I really enjoyed this, it called up many memories, felt like an alliteration to my own life. From the time I was lost, to the end times where I died to myself, it left my reflecting inwards, really uplifted me, keep up the good work.

bassfiddlejones responds:

Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to leave this here, made my day!

Life is a journey. That leads to death. Noticeable construction and good atmosphere. The Rebirth part sounded fake, to my ears. Was it deliberated? Was it sarcastic?

bassfiddlejones responds:

Quite the opposite actually! It was meant to be very sincere, though the cool thing about music is everyone will get something different out of it. Thanks for the review!
