Terre des Hommes Libres

The full title for this song, as some of you may have seen on YouTube, is "Sur la terre des hommes libres" (Fr.: In the land of the free). I wrote this four years ago, when I underwent National Service, a year before coming to the UK.

The song started on paper, and when I had returned from National Service, I proceeded to play it on the piano and record it with the only means I had at the time: a cell phone mic. Then it was given a first remake when I had just picked up FL Studio. Then last year, it was given a second remake. Now finally, with a proper mic in my stash, I have decided to give this song a THIRD remake.

The timing couldn't be better for the remake: some of my former schoolmates have been reaped for National Service and are making their way to the camps to which they have been assigned. I wrote this song in contemplation of whatever could happen in those camps: even though they were a very tiny minority, some people were sent to the training camps only to have very scarring experiences, and some were sent there never to return home alive. I realised that these possibilities were real.

By the way: going accent-less for the lyrics, because sometimes NG supports accents and sometimes, it does not.

LYRICS:

Lentement j'avance, j'affronte mon destin
Je souhaite oublier mon chagrin
La lumiere au milieu du noir
Brillera-t-elle dans mon coeur ce soir ?

TRANSLATION:

In the land of the free, the sun rises,
And up above, I see dreams
I get up and I begin walking
My eyes are fixed on what lies beyond

In the land of the free, I look up to the sky,
I tell myself that life is beautiful
I go forth and I keep my smile
Will I be able to defy the future?

Slowly I advance, I face my destiny,
I wish to forget my chagrin
The light in the middle of the darkness
Will it shine in my heart tonight?

I love your vocal-work, simply magical!

The track compliments your vocal-work really well, the instruments selected, the percussive like bells used, the strings playing all work and bring this composition together very well.

My only real complaint with the track is the Mix itself, I've noticed that the bass in this sounds 'choppy' instead of rolling smoothly and the panning sounds a little strange in some places. From your other responses I can see you are going to be working on a newer mix possibly? I would love to hear this track again with some mixing changes :)

Troisnyx responds:

Panning changes, yes, but also, the revised instrumental sounds a lot more crisp, especially the higher strings. The basses still need revising I think. D: And there'll be a singable English version too.

Glad you loved it -- thanks for listening!

Hello Troisnyx.
I cannot think of a way to review this track. I can feel a barrage of emotion and effort that has been poured into this composition and it has been assembled beautifully.
I'm going to buy the single for £10. I simply cannot listen to this track (and the two others) freely, and besides, you deserve a lot of support and recognition.
Take care and keep making magnificence such as this. It is truly heartfelt and lovely to listen to.
5/5

Troisnyx responds:

Oh my word..... thank you! <3

This is simply one of the most beautiful songs I have heard in a long time. This music speaks to the soul. The harmonies in this song give birth to feelings of elation, unity, and peace. Call me crazy, but this song seems to transcend reality and lifts the human heart into the heavens. I can see that this draws influence from Enya. Enya is one of my favorite composers, also.

I listened to the version on Youtube and it seems to be an even cleaner recording.

You are blessed. I pray your talent and music serves as an inspiration in this broken world.

Troisnyx responds:

Thank you... <3

Your mentioning all this underscores what I yearn to do with the musical gift God has given me -- I yearn to reach out to others with beauty, goodness and truth. And oftentimes, when words fail in prayer, music -- either through sung vocals or drums -- speaks. I only pray that I have the patience and the resolve to do what I can, and let go and let Him take control.

J'aime cette chanson it's well made the voices or the instruments don't overlap each other so it gives a nice blend between instrument and voice

Troisnyx responds:

Glad you liked it so! Thanks for listening! ^_^

i wanna give you a hug for this very well done piece. ( #.#)

Troisnyx responds:

*hugs!* You know I appreciate them very, very much. Thanks a lot for listening!
