Here is another song i made on fl studio
this song is pretty simple there's only two chords
i think i used a D Mixolydian scale

--Question--
If i use a G major scale with the root note D is it
D Mixolydian?
If not explain to me Dorian, Mixolydian, Lydian, etc.

Nice fun song. Appropriate title :)

-Critiques-

Drums were repetitive. I assume you were experimenting but I think you should polish your songs before uploading to NG. So add more variety to the drum riffs (breakdowns, variations to drum riffs)

I see you many several melodies in this song. All you really need to do is take one melody and make variations of it and play them at different parts of the song. You can add a second melody but that's pretty much all you really need.

-Good Stuff-

This song just sounds nice.

The drums WERE plain but you CAN use those to make awesome drum riffs. Good selection tbh, it has a lot of potential. I think you should reuse them in another song using my critiques above.

3.5/5

Keep working hard :) and to answer your question, yes a G major scale with the root D is D mixolydian. From D to C in the key of Gmajor, going up, is whole-whole-half-whole-whole-half.

If you have any questions you can PM me.

thanks dude

Happy song, yay!

I do love how this song immediately catches your attention. It's really upbeat, and since I'm a sucker for those type of songs, I'll give a pretty high rating. :D.
I think you did a great job with the melody. It doesn't have the same notes as anything I know, but yet sounds familiar. Those are the best kind of songs.
Even though the melody was pretty fast (I don't know how to say this so that you'll understand it without a doubt, but I'll try anyway: the time between the notes that make the main melody wasn't a lot.), it didn't sound complicated or chaotic. Well done on that.

The only thing that feels unfinished is the ending. I don't know if you didn't feel like putting much work in that, but a fade out the last three seconds sounds pretty lazy. If you could either make it so that the song loops or make the song less full at the end, I think it would sound better. It'll become more of a song instead of a simple, constant tune.
Also, the difference in how low the notes were at the end is something I would've liked in the song itself, and not as a teaser the last few seconds...

I have absolutely no clue about scales, so I can't help you with the thing in the author comments, so sorry about that.

The song is really simple, but sounds great. I am always surprised by how people with FL can make great sounding tunes. Great work.

thanks and yeah i was lazy with the ending i was in a hurry

Have you considered turning the track down a bit? It would create more room for dynamics. I also recommend reducing the high frequencies in the melodies because right now they really hurt my ears.
I respect chiptune as a genre, but I believe that as a genre it needs to be mixed to help protect listeners from those really harsh square synths. ^^

Catchy tune, nice mix with the drums.

Merpy responds:

Yeah i know I've been fixing my new songs because some guy told to learn about EQ and mixing and stuff so my new songs are gonna sound better!

Pretty catchy, I easily imagine this in a video game level ^-^

Merpy responds:

thanks
I've been wanting to collaborate with video game makers but i can't find one :3
