I love some good acoustic guitar strumming. This was really cool. I like your singing style a lot too. Very folky-sounding. Great work dude.
Cheers, dude! That means a lot. :D
I'm always wary of music with lyrics, and few songs with them tend to impress me. I never liked what people call a Chorus, I say it's for the lazy :D I like your song here, but your lyrics feel somewhat forced. Go ahead and waste that extra minute fine tuning it and making it...fit. I like to give speeches, and I've found that you tend to drive your point home a little better when everything feels distinct. The same goes with music I believe. I think this really applies to your ending there. It sounds so much like everything else in your song that I'm thinking I must've hit the pause button. But I didn't. In speeches, people don't remember half of it, but just like a good meal, THEY WILL REMEMBER THE DESSERT. They will remember the ending. That's another reason you need to spruce it all up. Good luck with music bro, and keep it up. I like how it sounds!
PS-Is this really punk?
Cheers for the feedback, man. Always appreciated.
I agree with everything you've said. I don't like forced lyrics, and believe it or not none of these are actually forced. I write what ever rolls of the tongue, makes sense and sounds good to me. And once I have a few phrases down I write the rest like poetry. But if it's sounding forced I should probably be more attentive to that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. :)
When you have a song with just guitar and lyrics it sounds rather bland. I know there are ways to make a song dynamic with only vocals and guitar but alas, I am a saxophonist. I do have plans for melodies, horns and violins and even organ but I'll be doing that later.
But as you know, it's a concept recording, all of it is subject to change and that's why I put it here. Thank you for your comments, wish I got more of them rather than 'I really like it. It's good'. I'll try a little something different with the ending when I've written more parts for it, I'll admit that it's pretty generic. Then again, simple is good. People like what sounds familiar, something they can relate to or something that makes them feel good or even dance. I go for that rather than musical complexity. I appreciate it, I love Maps and Atlases and I listen to a lot of jazz but that's just not the way I write music.
It's folk punk. Like Andrew Jackson Jihad stuff. Or Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains. Neither folk nor folk punk are available so I went for the next best thing rather than naming it miscellaneous again.
Again thanks for the feedback. It was very helpful.
Please contact me if you would like to use this in a project. We can discuss the details.
