Carmen Fantasy: Habanera

Habanera, from the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet. Carmen is one of the popular and most performed opera of all time. This piece is arranged by Wolfgang Lendle. Mr. Lendle arranged this music in a Liszt-ian sense. That is, in a style of the romantic composer for the piano Liszt.

I recorded this an hour before my actual performance. I really enjoyed studying and performing this music. I hope you liked it as much as I do. Thank you very much!

While this is a lovely cover of a classic song on what sounds to be a messy mix of acoustic guitar and piano it could be improved a whole lot.

The guitar while being played should have most or all of the notes being played at the same volume for a much cleaner sound. It sounds great for what you have done though as it sounds very much like the original piece.

One thing that is of an annoyance seems to be the light background sounds being picked up such as people in the audience speaking or static in the air also being caught on the microphone. Try doing a cleaner recording in a smaller room and this sound sound much better.

Overall, background noise, static, and some notes at the start being played lightly seem to be what needs working on.

I really enjoyed hearing some classical guitar, especially when that guitar is playing an arrangement of Habanera! Bizet is wonderful, always. I appreciated the Liszt-style arrangement, I definitely caught on to the romantic nuances.
The playing was done well. There are some high notes and weak harmonics in the later portion of the song, but you did fairly well to make every melody heard and heard clearly. I missed the barcarole-like bass in some parts, I felt like it was swallowed up by the melody at times.
That said, I don't think any less of the performance. I did take off for the quality of the recording. I understand that this was right before your actual performance, and you didn't have much on hand (presumably). However, most audio editors have a tool to clean up a lot of that background noise -- it can be distracting at times. And, to be perfectly honest, this is something that deserves as little BG noise as possible -- you're an excellent guitarist.

So keep that in mind, and continue to study the greats. You've just performed one, and it's a very accomplished performance, at that.
