UPDATED 08-12-12: a little louder in the distortion department, maybe overall...
hmmyeah... so, this is a demo of a song from the first round of recording back in November... a kinda half-assed vocal take (2 beers in), and a somewhat bipolar song structure overall... and the tempo's maybe a little too fast...?

the chord progression here is great i particularly enjoy the phrasing of the chords
im feeling a pixies or a toadies vibe from this as well and thats always a good sign
i wouldn't say its poppy its just a little too upbeat to be straight grunge id say its leaning towards alternate rather than grunge, who cares what genre it is, its a good song either way

Thanks! I meant half-assed in the sense that I'm pretty sure i forgot the words in one part, and the timing is ever-so-slightly off in a few places, and i want to change the words in the bridge completely. this is the perfectionist side of me talking... i just think the song could be a little tighter and grungier than it is, but i also think the vox could be waaay better, to do it over again.

I have to say that I liked your earlier sound a lot more. It was darker and heavier. This sounds a bit like MTV Pop Punk with a trace of your grunge attitude. First time i heard Terra Angelica I was blown away! This was not even close to that. (Yes I know its a demo but I think you get my point) But I hear that you still got that awsome scary voice! And thats worth an extra star. :)

hmmmmyes i have been itching to redo "Lumbago" for what that's worth to ya... something about how fast this take of the song is... idk. i'm going to slow it down a few hairs next time, that'll help grunge it up a bit. other than that, there's not a whole lot i can do for your criticisms. the song's pretty poppy. the chord structure in the verses came directly from me asking myself "what's one of those things i just haven't done yet?" and what came out was that simple strummed guitar at the beginning. like a doot-doot normal kinda beat, almost like Polly, only with weird change-ups and shifting dynamics. to me, it sounds more like a song from a musical, the way it switches beats so often. but you might be right about the Pop Punk. I'm not a huge fan of the genre (i'm more neo-classic punk - Op Ivy, NOFX) but i did just come back from warped tour. so i hear ya. i'm glad you've listened to so much of my work that you can hear the difference, the new music is trying to step a little bit outside the bounds, and add to to the bounty of grunge rock. but, i mean... if your beef is that this song is a little too poppy...? i don't know. the song's kinda poppy. is what it is. thanks for letting me share :)
