Dedicated to my friend Angela Z., who has almost always been up with me til 1 or 2 AM on school days working with me on science homework for 2 years now.

Yeah, took a long time... something like 170 hours according to FL Studio, but I reset the time a fair bit so it's probably like 200 hours, and really, most of you guys will think it's "too much for too little," but oh well. I know there's a lot in here that still couldn't be fully mastered.

The music should tell a story of night itself, and you should be able to imagine the music playing as you either do homework or talk to a close friend in the night haha. Hopefully the piece accomplished that, but nonetheless there's pictures to somewhat help in case the music completely failed in reaching the imagination portion of brains.

...I might increase this description.... Hm... Oh I started this song right at the end of March (2012), so.. that's like 3 months of work :D.

First things first. 170 hours on a single song is incredible. That kind of dedication is truly respectable. Your work on this song really shows. It's immensely textured and intricate.

Your transitions are really nice and closing in on pro quality.

Your instruments generally sound great.

Now that I've said lots of nice stuff, let's get down to the nitty gritty.

While I listen to this song, one impression that I get is that the song is moving by so fast that I can't even listen fast enough to catch up. It's disorienting. And what I *think* it is is that you really don't have any bass in this song. Okay, you have a little every now and then, but you really need a constant baseline going - it will give the listener something to be grounded to while that melody flies all over the place.

Another thing that you need is a breakdown. Maybe... MANY breakdowns. lol :) You have a really quick one at 2:55. Lengthen it. Add much more. Your music is incredibly fast paced and listening to it right now feels like a workout, haha. Breakdowns give the listener a rest. :)

There is a little collision between the melody and the the piano at 2:23. I think if you moved the piano up an octave or two it'd be good.

Holy crap your high range is EXPLODING at 2:50. Be careful about your range.

Pan your sounds when you have many things going at once. A really common one I hear is piano and synth. Pan them a little to the side and it will sound a lot nicer.

You show a lot of potential as a songwriter! I'd like to challenge you to write a shorter, slower piece. It might do good things for you :)

Sick song bro this is one of those songs that just makes everything you do better in life. So I rate this song 5.5/5.0 :D

You might know who i am ;) but anyways, I must say, I really think you out done yourself on this song even though I think IMMERSIFY was better. I think you have a good start to the 2012 and I really hope you can make better ones. The transitions are excellent better than some of the previous songs you made. Plus this song is very calming. I'm surprised that you know what you lack (even though composers have to know lol) but you still make the best out of it.

You lack some bass in your songs, a little more wouldn't harm.

And it's okay if you spend too much time in composing one song, just try to make it your best piece like drawing whatever you think is cool/epic even though you feel like you know you can't, but just make it your best.

My challenge for you is to make a 3-4min song but do it in your spare time or after you're done with your main song. Try to add a bass melody. Try to use segments and make collages.

:D best of luck? (i suck at phases)

AXTTXA responds:

I might know... but no I'm not really certain o.o. Rofl 2012's more then half over you know... xD. Nonetheless it's a song under the year, so that'll look nice on my record. Thank you! Someone notices the transition efforts AND the (possible) improvements! Calming? Jeez someone operates on the same wavelength for once...! Yeah, the mastering is certainly lacking a bit.... plus my earphones were half working in sound quality, so one day my mastering'd be on target, the next day, it's off :/.
Hm... bass as in bass volume or bass presence or bass significance? (related to your challenge idea)
Thanks for the advice :).
I have a couple of main songs I'm going to head to once I get back on track; right now it's lazy time! Time constraint eh? Quite observant... Bass melody... ThunderFury had some of that... I might go back to that though, thanks for the reminder ;P. Although segments and collages? As in...?

and thank you :P. (better than nothing :)
