An oldie but goodie

I have carried around a small collection of your songs on my ipod for years now. This doesn't seem like 2006, but it is. I randomly decided to look you up to see what kind of stuff you've been putting up, and my, your repertoire has grown! However, this is the track that really drew me to you. It's got a good, unique flavor that I would definitely be able to pick out in a crowd, and my favorite from you.
Although these reviews are quite old, I completely disagree with Zedar. I don't think this track tries too hard at all. And it isn't cheese. It feels pretty complete, which is to say I would have nothing to add. On my playlist, Manic Forfeit comes right after this song, and this one would be far more danceable, and I can grasp the melody perfectly. (Manic seems to have snippets of this melody, which is why I compare them.) Five Train commands attention. I am left thoroughly satisfied and entertained. Your sound is FAT. I like the layers, and I like the way that the percussion moves. I find variation to be much more aesthetically pleasing to the ears. It has a good, quick pace, and the end brings the whole production around again. I could basically have this track on repeat for an hour and still be grooving. I wouldn't come back to it if I wasn't tapping my foot to the rhythm. Really. You are for sure one of the better musicians on NG. You, kingbastard/myheadisaballoon, cornandbeans, and doki are the only NG artists I have kept in my library, and if those three can release albums, so can you. Unless you already have in this span of four years and I just haven't heard about it! Why don't you have your own website? Do you go under another pseudonym? I'd like to download your entire discography in one fell swoop, as it's a bit tedious to go one by one on here.
Please keep doing what you're doing. Looking forward to digging through more of your stuff!

cheese

/strokes cat.

she's listening intently.

cheesey funky electro, fun tune.

perhaps a bit too cheesey for me, i find this type of thing difficult, reminds me of idiots i used to know. i mean that in the best possible way tho. as always this track is loaded with great synths and full chords / harmonies. a nice track, just not my thing.

i loved it

this is now my official cruisin track. Hear me out! you need to start a myspace band profile so i can put your song 5 Train as my profile song. Pleeze i'm begging you man!

dj-padman1 responds:

Hey man, thanks for the review. I have been meaning to start a myspace page. Maybe your flattering request will be the push I need to get my lazy ass in gear. I'll drop you a line when I make it :)

Mein kopf!

Ok, so this is the best example I can pick of a recurring problem I've found in your tracks, so I'll pick it out now.

For the most part, your talent for what you do is acceptional, to a point where I can say," Damn, this is the kind of stuff that should probably be making money." And it usually is, there are several artists who with some determination COULD be doing just that with their tracks...

..but there are also times where it feels so chaotic and intense that it tries too hard. This one does in particular, tries so hard that there's literally nothing to dance here. It certainly is 'interesting' but it wasn't even halfway through the song before I felt more like I was sitting through it, than in it.

No one can really complain about the origionality or diversity because nobody does stuff like this that gets further than half a minute into someone's head. It also takes an immense amount of effort to leave me confused as I was. Over all though, everything shifts too fast for you to pick up on a common beat, though there are small sections where things stabalize.

So I guess I don't know quite what to make of this piece.

-Zedar, The Scythe-Monger

P.S.: While the problem is recurring, it's still relatively sparse in your work. Nothing to worry about, but it's atleast something to step back and question about your pieces. Don't go crazy trying to feel crazy.

dj-padman1 responds:

Your wisdom again is most beneficial! Thanks for the guidance, its quite humbling that you would go to such extensive detail in the review. It would take me 15 minutes to just type it, if I knew what the hell to say!
You're dead right, its a busy production, perhaps un-danceable. I really need to strip my tracks back to the core.
Once again, I thank you Zedar. This is the kind of advice I need and maybe it will sink into my thick skull eventually!

I'm not house expert:P

I prefer trance but this one is good, some part of melody may be good for ambient:) Nice work.
