Here is the first demo version of another song of mine, I wrote this one around the same time as Sore Street Romance which is 2 years ago. I think I was very inspired by Tom Waits at that time seeing that the two songs have some serieus waits influence.

I really didnt want to have the same type of vocals as in Sore Street Romance but it seems that is the only things that works with these types of songs. So I decided to make it a mix of Tom Waits and Chet Baker.

Well it wasd London town...
I was rambling on the privacy of an old street light...
And as I wander, trough the weary mist,
I hear the wind, whispering, your name...

As I look into the window of a retired café,
I see the eyes of a cat in my reflection..
I turn around and see a shade, as I
sink into the depth of my depression..

I wake up by the cry of a sparrow,
disappearing in the vaporous fog.
And while I´m out here strolling,
I see silhouette, hear the wail of a dog..

and now I´m fading away...
here in the silent rain...

But I felt like the luckiest man in the world
when that black cat crossed my path.

And as I gaze into these streets of illusion,
I see a dame far upon the dusky lake.
Suddenly I feel a change in the weather,
There's something different about the rain.

She's staring down to the ground,
And the sky begins to erase...
The rain washed away the colors
she'd painted on her face.

And now the streets are falling to pieces,
only the images remain..
I wake up by the cry of a sparrow..
And nothing looks the same...

And then I held her again
naked in the rain...

And I felt like the luckiest man in the world
when that black cat crossed my path.

Great track good sir. Keep up the awesome. :)

Damn, This is really Good. I'm more of an Electroswing and Glitch Hop sort of guy but this is some sweet listening... Forgive me for asking but is this inspired by anything? Cause I could've sworn I've heard this somewhere before.

I love this track since I first heard it a few years ago. Sets such a weird yet relaxing mood.

I used it in my new adventure game "Dinner with an Owl" where it is performed by an... well, yes, an owl...
You can check it out over at gamejolt.com if you like :-)

So being in a jazz band myself i got to say i love this. It has that dark undertone that just makes you want to light a cigarette and reminisce about things lost. If possible I'd love to get the score from you sometime.

Basset-Hound responds:

Hey Thanks! I'm sure you can figure out the notes/chords yourself its a really easy song.

The verse chords are Gm-D#-D

And the chorus chords are a Gm, then you walk down half steps with the bass until you reach the D# and the D again.

I do music on this here website, and I never really review works, but this is just fantastic. For anything it lacks, it makes up for it with a really palpable human element. I can taste tobacco in my mouth just listening to it.

Great job, dude.

Basset-Hound responds:

Thanks for the review I'm glad you liked it. I checked out your Bowie cover of Space Oddity and it was pretty awesome :) I always liked the vocal harmonies on the song and it seemed like a fun thing to record. It had just the right amount of quality and laughter.
