Judging by the title I was expecting something ambient, dark and perhaps creepy. This is exactly what I got, although it is more video game based with less authentic instruments.
It grew on me. The music is slightly stirring and reminds me of very old pixel horror shooting games. There is this sense of isolation, although it doesn't seem lonely at all. The high pitched piano is giving it a sense of hope and light, while the guitar is slightly warming.
The raw quality is questionable. I never truly understand the need to cheapen audio to give it a video game feel. My inspirations within games tend to come from proper sounds from played instruments. However don't let my personal preference deter you as my younger heart yearns for music that could have appeared in pre millennium games.
Since it is designed for possible use in video games the short length is necessary, and there are no disturbing looping errors. It could go well into any flash and/or game, either as a dungeon or as creepy forest music; alternatively I can also see it working in a dry and windy desert village.
I think you've got some reasonably good sounds here, and with commitment you have the possibility of establishing yourself on Newgrounds as a video game music artist. Keep in mind that music actually needs to be easily adaptable to the mind, and for that the raw audio has to be clear and as high quality as possible. Keep making thought provoking music and enjoy your next production.
