Greetings, NG friends. I hope you are enjoying the first day of 2012.
This here is just a simple little piece to help usher in the New Year. As short and simple as it is, however, the piece took me many months on and off to work on. Lots of procrastination, but I eventually got it finished. I wanted to make it somewhat joyful with an aura of intrigue and mystery. Sorry for the quality; particularly the vocal. You can never truly guess how it will sound when performed when you are arranging midi notes. I should have put more thought into the arrangement before rushing into the vocal bit. But nonetheless, it is what it is. I wanted to make another Old English sort of choral spiritual piece, and I did. Happy New Year to all of you wonderful NG folks. :)

Glory to God on High

Shed not a tear
For Heaven is near

The Lord has provided
Our ransom from fear

(Children)Rest in His hands
And be not afraid

For nigh is the kingdom
Of mercy and grace

Father on high
Hear our voices; hear our cry
Protect us when we've gone astray
And guide us in your way

Quality...

This sounds really interesting, however, I do agree that the quality is lacking. When the song begins, it seems to be a bit harsh on the treble, and the vocals are very low and lost within the instruments. If it weren't for your lyric chart, I wouldn't have any idea what the words were. However, if this was all recorded live, I can understand the difficulty in capturing a good quality recording. I'm not sure what resources you have available to you regarding choral singers, but for the sake of re-recording, re-mixing you might want to consider rearranging this piece for perhaps a quartet or quintet or small chamber, with all voices within your vocal range, but thats just an observation in opinion. Other than that, I really would like to hear this in better quality. From what I can hear, I like your compositional style. Keep it up!

Thanks so much for taking the time to review. I really appreciate that.
And yeah, I really messed it up when trying to do some EQ on it. That's usually the part when I mess up most of my songs because of inexperience I guess. I see what you mean though. Most people I know are saying the same thing about not being able to understand the lyrics at all. It was the same with the last choral piece that I did. But yeah. You are right. I agree that the song should probably only be sung by a few people. Perhaps that is what I will do next. As for resources, well I just have a mic and my voice really, so it can be edited and changed around if I ever got the time to, which might happen later on. Thank you again. There will be more similarly styled pieces in the future.
