Okay

This is an ok tune, but it just doesn't seem to stand out much for me. The sounds are ok, but just not that pleasant to the ear. I also just didn't like the instruments very much.

It did also get very epic at parts, which is always a nice touch. It had a very nice blend of relaxing, hard, and epic. I like that, a lot. I also liked the patterns of the melodies. Very nice.

However, it could have been mastered a little better, in my opinion.

This is a great start to a good future.

SuperBastard responds:

Thanks for the review and the encouraging words! I seem to have trouble with mastering quite frequently, I guess I don't quite have the ear for it yet, and I'm not entirely sure of exactly which parts of some of my music need more work.

nice

Sounds better than a lot of nintendo games honestly. The twirly sounds at 1:10 remind me of sonic the hedgehog, which is nice.(I love sonic)

All in all, very relaxing, good sound quality, and very awesome chiptune dude. :)

SuperBastard responds:

Thanks man, I really appreciate the review! I think that to say it's better than a lot of Nintendo's games is a bit extreme, but very encouraging nonetheless.

I've got fond memories of playing Sonic on the Sega Genesis...

Chiptunes, awesome

Always like to hear what people have to offer when they limit themselves to few channels. With six channels, though, this sounds pretty hollow - polyphonic voices can do you wonders thickening out the sound (listen to some of Follin's work on the NES, like Silver Surfer, to get an idea of what I mean). I liked the custom reverb, though - another classic chiptune effect that sounded very neat, here.

The XM dives and such were well placed throughout the song - something that I'm not proficient in, myself. Nice work, overall.

SuperBastard responds:

Thanks a lot for the review, man. I agree that it does sound a little sparse for having 6 channels. I wanted to keep it down to 4, but I got bored with that and slapped on the extra two, which I only really used for the 0CC arpeggios and an extra voice for the melody. I probably could have done more with them, and I suppose the extra voice did end up being difficult to hear, even though I set it to a relatively high volume. I'm considering going back in and either adding a slight vibrato to help distinguish it or giving it some panning, so check back later if you're interested in hearing whatever improvements I settle on.

That said, I appreciate the generous score, especially from someone who seems to understand the magic behind the music. Cheers :)
