The Poison Thought

Well here it is as promised. Spent literally half of this entire week working on this. Essentially, I was taken hostage by muses and they wouldn't let me go until I finished it. Lost a lot of sleep but found a lot of satisfaction in its creation. If anything this is a thank you for Newgrounds in the form of a song. All the encouragement and support from everyone on my songs and animation was fueling the work.

The Poison Thought is about that sinking feeling inside of you when suspicion and doubt turn rancid and you feed a pessimism you didn't know you were capable of. It's the "what-if" that destroys you... This song is about the journey of that thought process.

I can't describe how amazing this is. It is my favourite song, I listen to it all the time ahhhhhh I don't know why it isn't rated the best song of 2014, 15, 16, 17 and all the years after them. Really, great job, I love your works :)))))) The drop is so catchy and the buildup is the best buildup I have ever heard. I don't need to mention the other parts of the song. You already know that I love them.

This honestly might be my favorite song of all time.

..I'm not joking spillkaidah

Great song, just wondering though, is 3:10-3:14 a remix'd version of when sonic breathes in a bubble of air in the earlier sonic games? I could be totes wrong but my gut is pointing me in this direction.

Spillkaidah responds:

Nope, everything was completely original except for the whip crack and the laugh at the drop you were talking about, both of which i just found in Youtube videos. And I don't have any memory of that sonic sound, haha. I might have to look it up.

Excellent

Pretty good build up, dark, mysterious and strangely relaxing. Once the main melody kicks in (which I think may be a little abrupt) I couldn't help but to be amazed at the excellent use of effects and panning. I specially love how full the sound is, and the way you use noise to create a thicker atmosphere.

With its varying dynamics and feelings, it really does embody the bittersweet journey through one's mind. Excellent job.

5/5 ; 10/10

Spillkaidah responds:

thanks for the review, i can see how that part is a bit abrupt, but i'm definitely okay with it as far as stylistic choice goes. s'great to hear that the variation got you to my goal :)

It makes you think

Kinda scary thoughts, too, in the beginning. Everything you used combined to create a dark, oppressive ambiance up until 1:27, and I gotta say I really dug the melody when you laid it down. Even after it dimmed at around 2:00, you kept it eerie. But also, it's interspersed with cheerful melodies that contrast the dark ambient sound in the background in a weirdly cool way. I can picture this as BGM in some game. Or, just as something to chill out and listen to, thinking deep thoughts. Or just not thinking at all. Real nice. And I'd say, definitely your best so far.

Spillkaidah responds:

thanks for the review, man. that contrast between dark and light was definitely a huge part of this, so i'm glad you picked up on it ;) since it's about the thought process, its like the venom sinks in and flows deeper, worse thoughts and fears mount slowly, then just all out visualization of your deepest concern- not in the stereotypical dark sense, just in terms of intensity. then breaks down and you reform it all over again, a confirmation of your worries. And lastly, a slow reassuring major melody to say that things will probably be okay anyways.

'guess i'm just explaining myself :j but i know we're on the same wavelength. keep creatin' dood
