September NAC Entry

Not much to say about this song...first song I've made with NI Massive, I suppose. I also don't know what to categorize it as...so miscellaneous it is.

Interesting

Well this is certainly interesting to hear I think. Gives a feel like you just entered phase one of some sort of boss battle in a video game and look to try stopping the boss before it morphs and tries even more stuff to get you killed as well. The tune is quite cool though and I like it as well so nice work there too.

The synth has a spaced out feel to it like it was coming closer then leaving again. I liked the hammer and anvil like sounds here as well, gives a feel you just entered a dwarf cave. The electronic sound sounds a lot like someone said something then someone else messed with it to give it a heavy electronic feel to it.

The ambient backing synth sounds very nice and calm as well which is very nice feeling as well. The drums are quite cool I think and help finish up the song as well.

Overall, very nice little cave song that would be nice in a game.

Thanks for the review! :)

Interesting submission!

The beats, drum kits, and melodies are generally spot-on, but the loudness of those leads is also killing your mix! This song is also really loud.

Sorry for having so little good to say, but there is a lot that needs fixing here.

Things I would have done differently:
- These leads/ bass samples are out of control (the superhigh mix volumes destroys your appeal right off the bat. (Try something a little softer on the ears
- Everything about this song sounds rushed (Take more time for the individual things
- Mixing, Mastering, Mixing, MASTERING! Always watch those volume levels man

Overall this piece has potential, but needs work
Good work in progress anyway

I guess nobody likes how loud the bass is :P Personally, I love it and have no intention of changing it, but I'll remember that people don't like being blasted by that sort of thing from now on.

Thank you for the review!

I was turned off right away with that flat sounding lead. The beat was super cool and had a very unique swing to it that had my whole body moving. The pads were just what you needed to fill in the empty unused parts of silence within the song. The melody seemed to hover around at the same place on the scale, with nothing extra exciting going on as far is ascending or descending notation. I also felt this song got a tad repetitive and predictable, not what you want for a heart pounding action song. Overall, I feel like it was a good listen with a strong beat, but you slightly missed the mark for the element that gets a listener excited. 7.0

I do a Review! :D

Great song!
I really like some of the choices you made (the additions at 0:38) and wished you would have elaborated more on that.
The break at 1:17 was a nice touch too.
This had a similar issue as DjBira's submission, as it never really seemed to want to step out of it's comfort zone and be more than just background music.

Knoxius responds:

Hey man, thanks for the review! I appreciate it. Makes me feel special :P

I totally agree with your statement about 'background music'. I'm still working on structuring my songs better. Most of the time I feel my tracks are suuuper repetitive. I'm not just being hard on myself (like many people will try to say as comfort); it's pretty damn bad.

Again, thanks for the review!

All Aboard the Demoscene Train!

For some reason, I don't know what, but I tend to feel like I'm standing at a train station when I hear the clanging noises. Then I feel like I've gone on aboard, and I'm listening to music that sounds reminiscent of the style a number of demoscene artists have in their work. The retro-quality sounding electronic instruments really give me the impression that this was practically done on a soundtracker.

It probably wasn't, but I like the sound. I hope one day that demoscene will become a genre here on NG one day (given that everyone actually uses a tracker, when they contribute to *that* genre!).
