Month might sound like a plenty of time for making one song, but in reality it just runs out faster than you think. I really had no time to make any decent mastering so hopefully it doesn't sound totally trash. :-

The theme was 'heavenly/uplift'

Belated NAC Judge Review

The mix between the pad and percussion is really weird. The melodies do not really satisfy the uplifting tone to me, probably because the chord progression is quite random. The ending was not all that great too. Overall, the arrangement needs fixing, as well as the mix, and the melodies / chords need improvement.

Ah yes.. this one has some very good elements to it - however the wolves.. WHY ARE THEY STILL THERE?? I find they totally just destroy this piece. I also feel this piece suffers from a lack of proper mixing/mastering, which I feel also hurts your piece. as for criteria though I feel it was bang on - a lot of elements worked tho make this feel heavenly :). It had a very good driving feeling to it too and I felt the song flowed well throughout. So well done overall :)

Wow, you definitely have the heavenly part down!

I still feel the intro took a little bit too long (maybe by about 30 seconds), but once it got going it appeared to song pretty great. But you can already hear the problem with the mastering/EQing. Instruments get clouded so bad with others, the drums are meshed together with everything else, you can hardly hear seperation from the bass (as it gets meshed with the side-chain type instrument).

And the crashes sound really weird. Once the snares kick in, you can barely hear the hats, etc etc. I think you know what I mean. I think if you really took care of your song and spent time on the EQing, balancing the sounds and giving everything it's own place, you would have placed top 3 easily.

Aside from the negative things, this song has a lot of heart! Filled with tons of variation and additions throughout, I really love that about this song. Also the parts where things are minimal (04:35) you can tell how awesome this song could have been if every facet of the song were crafted carefully with the proper EQ and balance. :)

I'll say it again, you really captured the heart of the contest (the heavenly part, at least). Really good job. :)

This has a pretty epic feeling to it. As your title implies, I feel like a short journey to heaven is taking place. You had an implied underlying beat and a literal one to that hopped in there. The direction it takes when the beat goes full on isn't quite as desirable, until the beat has a chance to establish itself, then I got used to it. The chords and melodies used were very uplifting and heavenly in nature. I felt good emotionally, and that friend, makes this a success! I don't think I have ever heard a song this long on NG, but it was good. Your typical audience will lose interest after about 3 minutes, just FYI. I think you could have successfully crammed your vision into a 3-5 minute version of this. 8.9
