I submitted this piece for the Austin Symphony's First Annual Young Composers Competition. Of all twenty-five entries, mine was one of the twelve that the judges though deserved to be performed.
To say the least, I'm overjoyed.
Below is the description of the piece which is on the score.
----------
"The Last Lullaby" is about a mother and her infant child. For reasons that remain unnamed, the mother must leave her child forever, never to see him again. Because the child is an infant, he cannot understand the situation. However, he can understand being told goodnight has the mother has done several times. As the mother sings her bittersweet lullaby, she feels pain, love, and sadness. She also looks at her child and thinks of his innocent sweetness, and the adventures that she will never see him embark on.
Throughout her lullaby she wishes to say goodbye, but she can only say goodnight.

I honestly wish my music could get more publicity. I don't exactly write in a genre that everyone listens to these days, so it's understandable why I haven't gotten more.

I cannot listen to this while I read your description, out of everything Ive read and listened to at the same time, this one just... connects to me more I guess... Damn... I was hoping I wouldnt cry today.

That's the kind of reaction I was trying to get out of this piece, so hearing that is truely a meaningful complement.
