Electronic - Techno

Author Comments

Did this just recently in one sitting. Considered working on it more, but decided to just wrap it up so I can move on to other things. This piece is, as per usual, a step in a new direction for me. I've said it before, and if you've been listening to my music for a while you'd know this as well; every song I do takes me a different direction. I'M A POLY-GENRE SORT OF GUY. :D

Typically I try to write more about the individual components of the song, but I'll leave that to the comments. If you listen and like what you hear (or if you don't) please take the time to leave your thoughts below. I read 'em all, and they truly do help. And I'll be sure to respond. :P

The opening gave me high expectations, the thick deep beats are my favourite. I can see why you've put this into the Techno category.

But some of the notes are barely tunable. The high pitch electronic squeak doesn't sound pleasant when most of the other instruments are low pitched. It also makes the audio sound like it is trying to evolve from a classic low bit console game. Also there are moments of the song where it gets too quiet and there is a large amount of unmemorable repetitiveness.

It seems there isn't a leading sound in this tune. There is a big confusion between conflicting pitches and clean vs distorted sounds, which is undignified and makes it hard to imagine something to this music.

Mataro responds:

Appreciate the analysis, Pertokeyo. But I guess it's primarily just a difference of opinion. I'm not completely sold on the lead towards the end myself, but I stuck with it because I'm moving on to other projects. Going back, I would extend this a bit more, add in a few more breaks, and throw in some more harmonies and progressions. Or at the very least, lower the volume of the lead. :P

That said, like I mentioned in a previous response, the idea was to do something a bit more subdued. Most of what I do is aimed to be music you can sit and imagine something to. This is one of the exceptions. This is more imagined to be background to a gaming sort of environment. Or to some form of work. I'm not sure what you mean by "barely tunable", I'd appreciate if you could elaborate on that some.

Alas, this is all really just me burning time until I get the cash for the sounds I really want to be using. I do have some more stuff coming down the pipe. Probably not your cup of tea, but I appreciate the indepth opinions nonetheless, even if I do feel a point or two higher would have been more fair. :P

They don't call 'em critics for nothing, after all. Thanks for taking the time to write, amigo. :D

It was good, it had nice repitition but it may have been a little TOO repetitive. The dynamics were very well done in this and it had a nice flow. Deserves at least an 8. If not, more.

Mataro responds:

Thanks, man. I considered another break and a switch-up of the melody to give it an extra minute and some more content, but.. I decided on keeping it somewhat suppressed and lower key. The main rhythm sounds like something that could be exploding, high-energy trance or techno. But there's plenty of that out there already, so I figured I'd take it a slightly different direction. Appreciate you takin' the time to voice your thoughts though. And I saw you favorited it.. Thanks for that too. :D
