I DO NOT HOLD ANY ILLUSIONS THAT I CAN RAP -- this is just a fun project, more about writing the lyrics than actually singing it.

I hope you enjoy it, or at least learn something. Everything in here is pretty historically accurate, although I did insert a few of my own opinions in order to make everything rhyme just right.

I just had to record on my headset's microphone so the quality is pretty shitty.

Thanks to Kami for the beat: /audio/listen/333654

Ever since man came outta Adam and Eve
They all be thinking "what should we believe"
So to help with this problem, the Greeks came along
And to help y'all understand it, we wrote this pretty tight song

Now you gotta bear in mind there are others takin credit
Those Enlightenment philosophers just took our stuff and spread it
So don't ever let youself be fooled by those coffeehousing guys
If they was ever back in Ancient Greece they'd beat so hard they'd cry

There were a couple chill philosophers before we get to Athens
That focused mostly on nature and how people be ration-al
It all began with my homeboy Thales
Considered the father of Greek philosophy

Along came Anaximander and Heraclitus
Who talked about how everything is from one substance
Earth, water, fire and air
They were thought to make up the elemental square

Pythagoras of Samos said philosophy was life
And we should live accordingly or the world'd be full of strife
Xenophanes of Colophon postulated that God exists
But if he knew of Christianity he'd probably be pretty pissed

Then the Eleatics and the Sophists came in
Talking bout whether our perceptions come from senses or within
So Bacon and Descartes, take a very close note
Yo theories of deduction ain't nothing but a quote

We're Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates
Our mad philosophy'll bring you to yo knees
We be chillin in Athens, enjoyin' the show
If you think deeper than us, just let us know

I'm Socrates from Athens and I'm here to let you know
You surely don't know nothing as my questions surely show
I'll go around asking "what do you think about"
Things like justice, love, and war or when we'll all die out

So Sartre, Nietzsche, and Kierkegaard
I hold your existential selfs in the utmost regards
But don't you think by any stretch that you were the first
For in questioning the world and life and death I was surely more conversed

Some people be dissin my mad intellectual skills
They say I'm corrupting youth so I gotta be killed
So I drank my cup of hemlock and took a nice nap
But now I'm back, Athenians, with this pretty tight rap

I'm Plato dawg, and if you think you're smart
Then come to my Academy and get a philosophy start
I've educated the greatest from all around the Balkans
And until Justinian came around, I had a lot of people talking

The highest form that you can reach is known as just the "Good"
But if you want to reach this knowledge then its gotta be understood
Through dialogue and reason, not senses or impressions
So finding meaning in your life is up to your discretion

I'm Aristotle from Stagira and I got a lot to tell you
My theories were of multitudes and over time I learned a thing or two
So prepare yourself for the philosophy to come
'Cause if you don't pay close attention then you'll probably feel pretty dumb

Everything starts with the Deity, the origin of motion
And you must not think of this as matter, a pretty common notion
All matter requires form which is an immaterial thing
Form is what turns strands of fiber into a solid string

Infinity only exists in potentiality or theory
The idea that there exists an infinite set makes me a little leery
An infinite set of things coexisting right now
Would mean this set is actual and indefinite which the world will not allow

If we operate assuming that infinity can function
For a set of items that doesn't exist in complete conjunction
Then eternity is possible, for time can go either way
And each second follows another, and ea
