Spacewalk (FL Core)

Well, as soon as Rig posted a new competition thread (http://www.newgrounds.co m/bbs/topic/1164517), I had to join. Basically in the competition you have to make a song entirely out of FL Studio VST's, presets and sounds, and here's my submission.

This is the FL Core version (FL Core meaning made out of FL Studio factory sounds) of my song Spacewalk. Yeah, it's overdosed in reverb and delay, yeah the drum sounds suck, yeah the volume levels need work, but what the heck, I'm using FL Studio sounds for sud's sake.

This uses a lot of stuff I made with sytrus, along with a few sweeps I made out of 3xOsc noise and the Fruity Filter. I used the Fruity Love Philter, Fruity Reverb, Fruity Delay, Fruity This, Fruity That, and finally I've managed to make it sound half decent using only FL Studio sounds. Soundgoodizer saved my life in this song :D. If anyone wants the FLP file to see that this is indeed only FL Studio sounds, just send me a PM, although I must warn you that it's EXTREMELY CPU INTENSIVE. Also, I made it wit FL9, so if you have FL8 or under, you can't open the FLP. Whoever wants a full list of FL presets I used, again, just ask.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this song. It's piano trance, cuz piano is laik teh best instrument evarrr!
Wish me luck in the competition!

Another good one

A finished product! I didn't think you had it in you. :P But seriously, this is a great song which I very much enjoyed hearing. Only a few things to say that explain why I didn't give a 10.

Something about the beginning was weird to me. Maybe it was the fact that it didn't have beats, but after a while I was just sitting here waiting for the main part of the song to start. The effects were good, it just needs something else in there toward the end of the intro. Also the stop time parts were cool, but you used them like three times. Maybe you could make a diferent kind of transition for one of them? They sounded good though.

You had this one effect i the intro that I thought was really awesome, can't really explain it but I liked it. Also I thought that windy sound in the background really added to the whole "effect" of the song, especially in the stop time parts. The sort of bass part worked well, the song varied in beats and the melody was switched up a few times. At 1:14 you had another really cool effect which again I can't really explain. Basically, this whole thing has everything I look for in an audio submission.

Haha lol. I didn't actually think you'd review more of my songs, you've really been a great help! Although if you're going to keep on reviewing me you've got another 3 WiP's to review before you get to my best song, Racing Through Eternity, xP.

Actually I'm not one to make WiP's. I made all of these WiP's while I had school exams, during the small breaks I took from studying. This is because when I'm studying, musical inspiration suddenly comes to me and I just HAVE to write it down into FL Studio before I forget it, if you get what I mean. I didn't finish them simply because I didn't have time to, not because I lacked ideas. I'm definitely going to finish these off when I'm done, thanks to your awesome reviews.

Wow you're exactly right :P. The intro was just me and my obsession with epic choir intros. I'll surely add more to it. Also, the stop times was just me and my habit of doing them all the time. Sorry xP.

"You had this one effect i the intro that I thought was really awesome, can't really explain it but I liked it."

If it's the one at 0:01, it's an FL Preset 'FX_Eh' with a phaser, delay, distortion and some other stuff. If it's the one a few seconds later, that's a heavily edited wind chime factory sound from FL Studio (don't forget that I submitted this to a competition which only allowed me to use FL Studio sounds, which suck :P).

"Also I thought that windy sound in the background really added to the whole "effect" of the song, especially in the stop time parts."

And that's filtered white noise. I think it adds to the spacey feel.

Heh, 1:14 has so many sounds I'm not sure, but maybe it's the piano glissando?

Anyway, thanks again for the really helpful review, man.

Huh....

You actually made presets rock, nice job, i know it takes work, believe me......
I won't comment on the quality since they're presets but you could have chosen a better piano piano and kick sample, but it's still good.
Good luck then :P

Well obviously xP.

"I won't comment on the quality since they're presets but you could have chosen a better piano piano and kick sample, but it's still good."

Sorry, I couldn't choose a better piano piano sample, and neither a piano sample. FL Keys was all FL had to offer. If the piano didn't have soundgoodizer on it, it'd sound even worse, so yeah... As for the kick, yeah I could have chosen a better sample, but slicing preset drum beats totally crossed my mind.

"Good luck then :P"

Nah, I lost. xKore won xP.

Oh well, I wasn't planning on winning as much as I was planning on contributing to the competition anyway xD.

Thanks for the review.

Man, you're reviewing a lot of my submissions aren'tcha? O.o.

Massive!

I'm the type of guy who like, only uses presets and basic FL vsts and such, which I think contributes to a overly simplistic sound, but then you come along and make this HUGE track piled with walls of pads and synths. I really like what you did here, especially with the reverb, that basically made everything sound bigger than possible.

Amazing song! It would've been better though if you just sliced a packaged drumloop and made that the drumkit here :P

Step responds:

Hehe, thanks man! I'm pretty surprised it turned out like this, I thought with FL sounds I'd have to be limited to making some cheesy generic trance, although I suppose FL Keys served me well (to some extent xD) in this song ^^. I'm not that good when it comes to reverb but I'm glad you like it :P.

Yeah, the drums xP. I layered every kick in FL Studio and still got a kick which sounds like crap. Oh well, maybe I should have done that, but it's too late now, the competition's deadline passed 4 days ago. On the 22nd I'll get the results :).

Thanks for the great review!

haha

Nice and original. Everything was fine but main kick sounded very shit xD

Step responds:

*Ehem* FL Studio sounds *Ehem*. Lol, thanks for the review!

From Space to Universe!

Amazing! I loved the singing voices behind the sound. A cool thing from the song, was that remeber me the space or the universe, like a futuristic sound. The balance from the calm intro to a more action part, was really nice. One of my favorite parts in the song, is during 02:00~2:20 and don't forgetting the intro to 00:00 ~ 01:00.

During, 01:00 remebers me an action scene, like some people running or some adventure, that was great how that sounds like.

To me, this trance, remembers space, universe, action and bunch of speeding, really amazing.

I give you 5/5 and a 10 score.
SpyS.

Step responds:

Thanks for the review! I'm actually surprised someone reviewed this since it's made entirely out of really bad sounds I had to find which came with my music making program xD.

Hehe, glad you like the singing voices (they're choirs :) ). I enjoy adding choirs to my songs, since they not only fit in Classical and Orchestral songs, but even Trance, Dance, Techno and sometimes even Rock.

It's funny you should mention the futuristic or spacey sound. Loads of people have told me that this sounds futuristic and spacey. I was trying to make it sound like that anyway, so I'm happy I succeeded :P.

I'm also really glad you like the intro. I always try to make my intros as interesting as possible. Also, the part at 2:00 - 2:20 was just something I did to try and make the song a little longer, so I never knew people would actually like it xD.

So, glad you like it, and thanks again for the awesome review!
