I made another short piece to help with sight reading and 1st 2nd 3rd finger picking. If you want a digital copy of the sheet music I'll have a system set up soon, but for now just pm me your e-mail

P.S. I got my interface working good now, but I can't tell if the volume is too low. Please tell me if the audio level is fine!

As I noticed you mentioning it; Hi five for cubase AI4! ;D Very awesome piece of software, nice intro into cubase if you've not used it before. Anyway, onto the track:

The volume to me seems fine, or at least a lot louder than your previous track...though maybe that's just me having my volume up louder.

I really like how your etudes could function almost by themselves as short little tracks, just because they go through a lot of different harmonies and have a very characteristic melody...and generally, the kind of thing you could listen to over and over.

The plucking on this track seems even smoother than the ones before, there were perhaps one or two times in the entire track (:45 and 1:05) where I started to not think the picking was as smooth as it could be, but it's almost imperceptible.

As the others have said, for such a short piece you've got a great structure, something which could easily be translated into a longer piece if you felt like extending it. The classical picking also helps every transition seem smooth as butter, and you obviously know exactly where you're headed with each chord so it just seems very fluid and relaxed throughout; again, the kind of thing you'd not mind hearing as background music to a variety of settings, just because it's so atmospheric even of itself.

What can I say? You obviously have a knack for this, so definitely keep them coming, and think about extending these studies into longer tracks, because by the looks of things you could definitely fill a track of 3 minutes+ with a lot of shiny guitar goodness. Keep it up, as always.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. A few of these recordings were done with poor nail care at the time, so they were not shaped correctly and too long. I'm glad you liked it though.

I actually have been writing rather long versions now, I think my longest is about 7:30. i'm working on extending some of these older pieces also.

Thanks for the review!

Love it!

I think this is better than the other submission 'Minuet in F' (even though that sounds good as well :D), although that's probably because I prefer minor way more than major, but whatever, this song is absolutely amazing. I never really liked songs with an acoustic guitar only, but this is probably why I make exceptions. Keep up the great work, this really is awesome :D.

The melody is obviously the strong point of this submission, and it sure is good. I definitely can't find anything wrong with the melody. It was fast-paced, yet at the same time soothing and calm. Good use of arpeggios too. I think the only thing I can complain about would be that I think some of the plucks at 0:37 were a bit too loud and seemed to stand out too much in this. Other than that, amazing melodies. Atmosphere was brilliant as well.

In this paragraph I usually comment about your choice of instruments and instrument quality, but since you only have one instrument being a guitar, I guess there's not really much to say :P. The guitar sounds great and the recording quality was also good ^^. One thing that might make this better is if you add some strings (i.e., a violin, or maybe a cello instead). I'd really love to add some strings to this myself if you don't mind (I have some extremely high quality string samples from East/West Symphonic Orchestra Silver) but I don't have the time and I'm too inexperienced in music to figure out all of the notes of this :C.

The transitions are all extremely smooth. Like sixflab, I love how you transitioned the notes to create such a smooth melody without any roughness or abruptness (except those plucked notes I mentioned, although that could be just me). The structure was amazingly well done, and so was the variety. Intro was perfect, and the outro was as well. Gah, do something wrong for once, I'm tired of complimenting :P.

Overall, this is a really nice piece. You definitely know how to make nice melodies, and you're awesome at playing the guitar. Nothing much wrong with this submission, so I'll have to give it a 10. Keep it up!

Darkmaster603 responds:

Thanks for the lengthy review, I had bad nails at the time, and I think my ring finger nail was broken, so the picking was pretty...meh. I'm glad you liked it though, and thanks for the long review. I always keep this stuff in mind in future compositions.

Thanks for the review!

Letting you know

-The volume was a lot lower than most audio works that are submitted to newgrounds. I listen using headphones and I still had to increase the volume over half to accurately hear the back melody.

-I just love the classical guitar and how well you can transition notes with it. It gives the song that light atmosphere that just settles you down and lets you fade off into a happier place.

-Even though it is short it feels like a full piece since it has a greatly structured beginning, middle, and end. The beginning could of been worked in a little slower though to build a little better.

Darkmaster603 responds:

Thanks, This was before I understood how to set up my work station for the best volume. This was actually recorded in FL studio, which was a big pain in the butt. Now I use cubase ai4 because it came with my interface, and it's a lot better.

I've realized that people like these etudes, so for their sake I'm re-working all my etudes into actual songs.

Thanks for reviewing so many of my songs, it really means alot :)
