I never really played Chrono Trigger until I got it for the Nintendo DS about a month ago, and I've got to say, the the whole experience is fantastic, especially the music. Problem is, Square Enix decided to be lazy, so music is all still Super Nintendo quality. I thought I'd go about fixing that for a few of my favorite tracks. I made this partly for a friend, partly for myself. I used Acoustica Mixcraft to make this, as I couldn't quite get my head around the clusterfuck that is FL Studio.

Also, I noticed that absolutely no remixes of this theme (that I could find anyway) used the crying/cackle thing in the original version of the song. The crying/cackle thing was very painstakingly extracted directly from the game by me. And it's mine, ALL MINE.

March 2014 edit: This track has a lot of issues that I know I could fix, but I no longer have the original file, so I can't really do anything. Unfortunate. The black wind still howls.

nice

I like it, but that horn is freaking ruining it, it's so out of place, might as well have a kazoo in there. But then again, much better then anything I could ever do :P

Kazoo? Now there's a thought. Honestly, I'm tempted to make everything bagpipes.

It's pretty hollow

Samples aside (they're not too great, but we work with what we got), the harmonies (which were rich in the original) are completely lacking, here.

The melodies are spot on, but without the textures and harmonies of the original the song sounds incomplete. Nice attempt, though - the effort is appreciated.

As for access to remixing programs, have you tried Reaper yet? It's nearly free, and it's quite a powerful DAW. I hope that helps you out, for future releases.

This brings me back

I actually did another review of a Fight With Magus Remix, but the other was metal. The opening I thought was fantastic, however the horns in the middle didn't really work for me, but then at 1:24 when you did the crying thing...I seriously had a little freak out considering it's pitch black in my room and I honestly thought there was something there.

Nevertheless, good effort. The horns didn't do it for me, but others might like it. Keep up the great work.

P.S- Excellent taste in the song, Battle with Magus is one of my favorite songs from Chrono Trigger

I don't have regular access to any music making programs, but I've actually been meaning to give this one another look the next time I have access to Mixcraft.

I liked it..

The ambience of the first 20 seconds made it feel like I'm sitting on my couch playing Chrono Trigger being scared shitless trying to find Slash and Flea at 3am in the Morning. I'll be sure to make a cover of this song soon to compare :D.

Keep up the good work. Brings back memories. 5/5 10/10
