Dedicated to all the people that made my year awesome.

I made this while I was down and teary eyed, while I was remembering how great this last year of grade school was like with my friends. I graduated a few days ago, and that marked the end of the best year I ever had... just.... thanks guys!

Great Piano

Well, this piece certainly grabs the listener's attention with the piano, before hitting them with the drums, which is an interesting combination, especially since the percussion is cymbal heavy. With how it all comes together, the piece seems far better as the piano, as opposed to the way that the percussion seems to drown the piano out.

To take this further, I would tone down the cymbals and work at getting the piano to do something else, as opposed to just this tune that you've got. Perhaps a quicker solo piece, just to get away from the cymbals, which might seem like they are trying to be oppressive?

Sawdust responds:

The cymbals could probably represent teachers? Lol. I'd probably tone the drums down then, Maybe reduce it to a simple drumloops sample.

Awesome.

Man, I'm a big fan of piano in Rock songs, it has a perfect sound together with the drums, the only problem is that, as a Classical Rock song, it should have a guitar, man, don't forget that the guitar would give a better look to the song, it would fit awesomely with the drums and the pianos...

The drums are very nice, they have a nice sound and they made their work, this instrument is supposed to be the base of the whole song, and you did it very well, I also loved that solo, it fitted really well with the break you made, I really loved it...

The piano is great, it's perfect, it fitted so well with the song's concept, you really made a sentimental song, it's perfect for a victory song (In your case, graduation), and I hope you're very hapy with this great goal you reached...

This music is a mark for you, and you made a great masterpiece here, congratulations, man, I loved this song, keep it up w/ the good work!!

Thanks so much! Knowing that people enjoy and appreciate my work is an intensely satisfying feeling.

Also, I'll attempt to add an guitar, probably play the progression on it. Again, thanks!

I thought the piano sound was perhaps a little to aggressive, at it cut through the other instruments as they came in, and the same for the drums when the beat it was playing started getting heavier, it was quite hard to hear what the other two instruments were playing, which is a shame because from what I could hear they were playing nice things.

It started off quite melancholy but it sort of progressed into slightly happier themes as it progressed; not as if things had instantly gotten happier or anything, but as if you'd just seen the start of the light at the end of the tunnel or something similar; especially as you get to the halfway mark and the pace increases a little more, it just gives it that little extra drive of hope and expectation, so there's a nice transition of emotions.

The fadeout was perhaps a litttle too long, but in general works well. All in all, a really nice piece. Take another look at the levels of the piano and drum sound and this is a pretty cool track.

Sawdust responds:

Well, yeah, too much of the percussive sound of the piano, and the drums were too bassy. Thanks, I'll look into that.

I'm also glad you enjoyed the piece.

Great!

A very well composed song. It starts off really slow and quite sad. But the longer the song plays the more elements come into it and the atmosphere changes from "sad" to... well, not exactly happy, but to a less sad atmosphere. It makes me feel like I really should get started now (started with what? I don't know, but if I have something that really needs to be done, I should listen to this song to get me started. :) )

Usually I'm not a fan of fade outs, especially not long fade outs. But it fits very well here, I think. It kind has a very nice "to be continued" feeling to it and this feeling fits very well to what you've written in the comments. You graduated, so grade school is now your past. But there's a future, that needs yet to be written. So the "to be continued" fits very well here.

Great song!

Sawdust responds:

Thanks so much! I'm ecstatic that you enjoyed the song.

Also, the sadness present in me came out and the song basically became a long goodbye to the last 8 years of my life, and seeing how there's more to come, I think that's why there's a to be continued feeling going on.

Anyway, thanks!
