Today was a rainy day for me, and I like rainy days. Something about them is just so soothing to me. And so, this rainy day inspired me to make a song. I began the song as a very quiet and peaceful song and BOOM! A deafening thunder roared over my house. This sound inspired me to make a deep and heavy song.

So with the inspiration to make a soothing song and a deep song, I merged these two ideas into one, thus creating "Imperfect Serenity."

My goal with this song was to sooth the listener and to break the listener at the same time; to create imperfect serenity. So when listening, forget all your worries and troubles. Close your eyes and run away to your own wonderland, your Utopia.

I may change a few things that I wasn't so sure about in the song such as the phasor effect, so let me know what likes/dislikes you have about the song.

Enjoy :)

A great overall feel

What makes this song is absolutely the feel. The ambient background sound that goes on throughout the whole song really sets the mood and feel for the entire 4 minutes and 23 seconds of the song.

I didn't really like the sound of the instrument used for the melody, but that's just personal taste. It reminded me of one of those drums that look like trash cans that I connect to stereotypical Caribbean music.

Still, when combined with the background synths, it really worked out. Totally removed any feel of Caribbean drummers. Speaking of drums, I really liked your use of drums in the song. Not too hard to follow, and catchy, sounding well.

One thing I really would love to see more of, would have to be variety, because there's not too much of it here. Sure, there are some difference after bridges, but in general, it's pretty much the same.

A good track that could use a little bit more variety. Serenity indeed.

Yeah...I agree that there should be more variety, but I wanted to keep the trance-y feel that it currently has.

Thanks for the review!

Nice tune

This was neat, kinda differant, but you did present something really good here, and seems to have a good quality abouot it aswell, with the tone you got going with it, this would be just perfect with some sorta {VOCALS} seems like its the perfect tone for some, but for what it is, its very impressive, if i can suggest any {IMPROVMENTS} at all i might say add them vocals, maybe you could work with someone and this tune, it would greatly improve on something you have here, on another note i wouldnt mind some more {DEEPER} sounds maybe with some {DRUMS} or something, but for the mostpart its pretty good stuff i thought.

Some deeper sounds, maybe some deeper drums, but this would be most fitting if it had some sorta vocals.

UncleSqueezins responds:

Yeah...vocals would be a very nice addition but I don't have a microphone so I can't do anything about it unless someone would like to volunteer to add some. Deeper sounds would be nice as well. I might have to add some one day.

Thanks for the helpful review!

...Never actually knew you were so good at making music O.O. Again, this is a really good song like your other song, and it's not going to be easy to make a review which doesn't consist mostly of praise :P. I still think I prefer Fusion, but this is still a really awesome song, and a few more songs like this will definitely convince me to favourite you as an author. Nice work!

Again, like in your other track, the atmosphere in this song is superb. You've definitely succeeded in creating the dark and deep atmosphere you were going for, and it works really well along with the whole concept you had when you made this song. As for the melodies, while like in Fusion, I think that this song could do with a few more alternate melodies since there were basically only two distinct melodies to last for 4 minutes and 23 seconds. That's not to say that this got repetitive since there were enough subtle changes in the background to keep this varied nicely, but still, more melodies is always welcomed in a song, as long as the song doesn't end up random and entirely unpredictable, in my opinion.

The synths you used were awesome. You had bassey pads in the background which created an interesting contrast with the higher pitched plucked synths in the foreground. I also liked the synth strings (?) you had playing at 1:16. The background depth in this is fantastic, and so is the production. The effects you used in this song were also very cool, such as that awesome effect at 1:16 and the one at 2:05. Actually, the choice of effects and synths really gives this a dreamy and almost spacey feel to it, which sounds cool. The filter/phaser automating towards the end particularly sounded spacey (and it also sounded cool so I don't think you should remove it, at least in my opinion).

The transitions are very smooth. Throughout the song there were some very good transitions like the transition to introduce the drums in the intro or the transition at 0:22. You used loads of reverse cymbals to make some really cool transitions. The only transition I didn't quite understand was the one at 0:18, the drums suddenly exited from the song. I expected the drums to go on a bit longer, but they just disappeared out of nowhere, which is a bit abrupt. I don't know if it intentionally was abrupt, but personally I don't like it much. Other than that, the transitions are practically flawless. Good job.

The structure was good. A bit simple, but worked out well nonetheless. I think that you could've added an epic break of some sort throughout the song since while the song does have some calm parts, a break and then a powerful buildup soon after would really be cool, the way I see it. Variety, was decent, since as I said, you had loads of subtle changes throughout the song to keep it varied well, but at the same time, you could've done with an alternate melody, or maybe an entirely new synth to grab the listener's attention. Heck, even a break would work, like I mentioned above. The intro was great, it started very softly and then picked up quite quickly. The ending was a fade ending, and while I rarely like fade endings, I think it works well in this song.

The drums were really awesome. Probably the best thing about the drums would be that they have such a catchy beat. You lined it up well with the melody, which made the melody fit perfectly with the drums. Those drums actually sound like something I'd hear in a rock song, yet you implemented them flawlessly in this trance song, which is impressive. I liked the drum samples you used too, especially the snare. Maybe you could've varied the beats a bit more, since by 1:16 I was expecting a new beat or maybe another layer of drums on top of your other beat. Even some subtle changes might help. By now you might have already noticed that I love variety :3.

I don't think this is as good as Fusion, but it still has really catchy melodies, great transitions, etc... Most of the defects I can find are small, so basically it's another great song by you. Good luck in your future songs :D.

UncleSqueezins responds:

Hey! Thanks again for another awesome review! It looks like I am finally getting some of the attention that I rightfully deserve after being 0 bombed on a lot of my songs for a year! :P

Yes, I realize that this song does lack a bit of variety, but that was kind of intentional. I wanted to keep that trance-y feeling so I was kind of cautious about adding more melodies in there. However, you may be right. I may go back and look at it one day to see if I can change anything up :)

Thank you so much for reviewing and I'm glad you liked it! :D

It truly is an imperfect serenity, those who can dwell in their thoughts for a long time will understand me.
Beautiful song, love it, it's inspiring and makes a wise man think. I'm getting inspiration to draw something, might do it, one of my better draws for some time ago was also inspired by a song, and the character's design came out nicely.

UncleSqueezins responds:

Thanks for the review! It's cool to know that I have inspired someone :)
