Dead Winter (Trance Remix)

This is my first legit trance song, and my first song of the year. This is also my first attempt at dream trance. This song might not be 100% dream trance but it has many elements of it.
Basically, this is kind of like "Lost Entity (Dance Remix)" in the sense that it is a remix of a classical song of mine, which that classical song is still in the making. Also, it is a song which I always love to play on the piano in different adaptations, because of its extensive melody capabilities (you can literally freestyle the melody of this song if you just keep on playing the [D minor, C, B flat, A] progression repeatedly with your left hand.

Every time I play this song, I picture some war-torn widow walking down a snowy old war-torn road in a dead winter (hence the title) carrying a baby. I really don't know why this comes to mind, but this song helps me to channel emotions and feelings.

Please, enjoy, rate/review, and check out my other stuff as well=)

Sad melody, jumpy overtones

An interesting track, but certainly not a brilliant one. Personally, I'm not a fan of where the piano is playing in the background, sounding sad and slightly mournful, but the main melody of the piece is the trance progression, which to me really doesn't mix well with the piano at all in this format.

The length is good, bordering on a little too long. I can see what you're trying to do with the piano, in conjuring up some sort of wintry theme for the listeners, but it needs something else to make it like that. Perhaps change the trance synths to something a little softer and smooth, as opposed to the current setup of ramming it home with the bass beat on top and trying to mix the two together. Perhaps consider the sort of sounds you get from wet fingers around the rims of glasses and work with that as the main melody. The tune would suddenly seem much more like it was a winter theme, as opposed to the in fighting I can sense at present.

Nice progression

I like the progression of the song. It starts off a bit generic, but quickly evolves into a quite unique song with a great atmosphere. Maybe the sounds are a bit too loud sometimes (for example around the 2 minute mark), so it's hard to make out the melodies and beat there because they are overpowering each other.

But overall it's a good song with some very good parts (I especially like the transition at 2:37).
However, the high pitched melody is a bit too high for me. It seems as if it doesn't fit too well into the song.

Still, I like this song, even though it has some flaws in my opinion. But it's original and it has a nice progression.

Trance dancing

This just gives you the feel of wanting to dance while kind of mellowing out at the same time as well, this is a good piece.

Piano: Very spacey feeling as if it was trying to come into the mix but it just isn't very capable of doing so for some reason.

Drums: Lots of bass kicks and hi hats being done.

Synth: Sounds very cool, like the sound goes from side to side.

Chorus: Sounds angelic to me.

Overall: Wonderful piece of work, nice job on doing this piece of work.

DJ-Chilvan responds:

Thanks for the review! Yea, I had negative feelings about the piano as well, but it still aint all that bad=)
Haha, it was thanks to the folks on the Audio BBS who taught me how to make some punchy ass kicks=P. And the synths are like my favorites, yea, I panned them all in their own specific ways to create a very psycho-spacial effect. I call it the "Glass Angel Effect." Haha, the chorus was epic XD. Thanks again for the review man, I'm glad you liked it. This piece is one of my more sweat and tears one XD.

Inspiring

This was a real joy to listen to. Thanks for submitting, and keep it coming.

DJ-Chilvan responds:

Thank's a lot! I'm glad you liked it! Yea, I really love listening to it, there's so much feeling to it=).
Don't worry, I have a lot more stuff coming this year. Ranging from classical to trance to dance. My main focus for this year is tracks like this, stuff in the dream trance genre so hopefully you'll see more like this as the year progresses.
