The melancholic sounds within this piece are reflected in its title The Funeral Prayer. I wrote this for a local church ensemble in Earls Colne after they asked me to arrange a number of modern hymns by Kieth and Kristyn Getty. The idea behind this piece originally was meant to accompany the reading of the Lord's Prayer, but after completing the piece, it became apparent that that idea did not fit with the sound world. After much deliberation, I chose to associate the piece with the 23rd Psalm "The LORD is my shepherd".
