Electronic - Trance

Before I start, let me just say that this song is evil. Whenever I try to play a bit of it on FL Studio, I get loads of crackles and lagging. Even when I'm not even playing it but leaving it at Stop, it consumes 50% of my CPU. I want to get rid of this song so I can work on something less CPU-killing now.

So, after long hours of producing, I've finally come up with another Trance song (which makes my Trance song counter at 4 :D). It's piano trance mostly, and I think it's the best piano trance I've made yet.

This uses quite a few instruments/audio clips/automation clips. It has 33 different unsorted channels, 5 audio clips, 19 automation clips and 38 different patterns, which all show that I worked really hard on this. It uses the Unison soundfont and the Magnus Choir VST for the choirs, a piano from the SGM V2.01 soundfont, a pad from the z3ta+ VST, an arp (heavily edited) from the Vanguard VST an effect and a bass from a miscellaneous soundfont, 2 sound effects I made myself with Sytrus, a reverse cymbal from the Unison soundfont and a hell of a lot of drum samples. It took me a while deciding the tempo for this song, and after some time I decided to stick with 140 BPM. This is also the first song I ever made without the use of a limiter in the master channel (about time eh? :P) and I used the Fruity Compressor and Fruity Pan-O-Matic for the first time.

Thanks to borntodj167 for giving me one of the samples I used in this song, thanks to Darkight17 for giving me loads of criticism before I submitted it and thanks to Blackhole12 who thought of the name, gave me constructive criticism and pointed out that this song sounds a LOT like Metroid Prime O.o. Anyhow, enjoy the song, and please review. As usual I'll respond to all reviews and review back if it's helpful. Thanks for listening!

So glad to hear that the piano is now genuinely playing by the same rules as all the other instruments. The echoing thing at 0:32 was great. This has a nice drive to it, nice drums that are varied and still sensible, and even good melodies in some places. The metroid prime thing MIGHT be because you use the same midi-like choir :) Transition before 1:46 was lovely. Sweet! Nice way to start the year

Step responds:

Yep, this is when Blackhole12 told me to get rid of that limiter, and I'm so glad he did!

I'm proud of the main melody in this track; sometimes I milk it too much and some parts in this kinda suck, but the main melody itself is quite decent. And the drums are all of a sudden so much better, yeah, and I started using drum filters properly.

I did overuse that "stop playing the song for a bar" transition thing though :3.

How can't you like it?

This is a truly good song, I don't hear very many good trance songs. This one is really good, better then most of your other songs, I think. Keep up the good work! I like the piano parts, and this song doesn't get boring at all while you're listening to it.

Step responds:

Thanks for the review!

Yeah I agree that the standard of Trance submissions here on NG is quite low, but even then when I started out, my Trance wasn't that good xD (just hear my song Speeding Through Infinity :P).

I certainly don't consider this my best Trance song though. It's definitely one of my favourites, but my best would probably be Racing Through Eternity. It's not piano trance; more spacey and fast-paced trance, check it out if you want :). n/322854

Anyway, thanks again for the review; I'm glad you liked it!

Step responds:

Wow, thanks for the review, man! Been a while, yeah ^^. I doubt you'll find time to listen to them ALL, but thanks for being so supportive! By the way, I'll suggest hearing Musical Evolution. There's a part in there which I have a hunch that you might just like xP. Thanks again!
