My guitar broke, so I decided to reluctantly mess with a guitar synthesizer. The VST gave off a sound my regular amp don't as well, so I feel it was for the best to go the non-traditional way this time. I used FL Slayer. Oh, and my real guitar amp is busted too. Gotta change the speaker.
I was mixed about working with the heavy percussion after the first galloping chorus, cause it sounded a bit much, but for some reason, I liked it enough to keep it in. That would be the only gripe with me about the song. I find myself going overboard once in awhile, but think if somebody out there likes it, then its there to be heard.
The bass was created using styrus bass synth on FL Studio titled Deep2. I used it cause it is great for making almost natural bass tones. I play a real bass, but its fretless and it don't work well with this type of song.
Epic climactic speed driven battle music is what I like to create. I find myself a huge fan of galloping bass lines. I love Japanese VG music as well. Takenobu Mitsuyoshi is one of my current favorites, so I have been experimenting with that type of feel on a few other projects,
Ryuichi Sakamoto from the group YMO is also huge on my list of musicians who give off a retro Japanese Video Game sound that I kind of try to emulate in one form or another.
