Hi there.

Now I've got a Newgrounds account, I may as well upload some of my old songs that I wrote and produced myself. Just to get them out there more than anything, really.

This song was recorded seven long years ago and I wrote it and recorded it in my bedroom when I was 13, so please do not mind the shoddy recording.

All music written and instruments played by me and sung by my wonderful girlfriend at the time.

This is an excerpt from my description of the song when I first published it;

Temple of the Knight.

Sung by: Thalia Beard

Written in: 2 days

Recorded in: 2 days

What was going through my head as I thought of the four day deadline for this song?

What did I want to achieve?

I felt as if I had all I could really take of personal songs for the time being, and decided on the theme of something that wasn't me at all.

But what wasn't me?

Well, I'm not a girl, that's for sure.

Commerciality was one of my main goals with this song, so decided the story to be a typical 'girl with boy, boy cheats on girl, girl forgives boy but soon realises he's an ***hole' type.

Feeling confident, I set off on the journey of the girl raver.

As you can hear from the intro, I wanted to have a booming bass sound.

I really wanted girls to not only listen and relate to the song, but to think 'f**k yeah!' at the same time.

So I needed a catchy, blasting riff-raff of noise.

I hoped I achieved that.

Taking inspiration from games, as always, I also used a very vintage '8-bit' keys sound to really let rip on the whole 'pop-art' feel.

The drums were pretty easy, as it needed just a simple dance beat.

They're always the best choice with songs like these.

The keyboard solo was also pretty straight-forward, and after choosing the notes, we recorded it on a live take, without quantizing. We wanted to really feel the energy.

Vocal melody-wise, I schemed up a very simple notation, for simple is key in the land of pop.

Things were looking up.

The very high note at the end, (as is the harmonies), is actually sung by me and not Thalia.

Someone has no balls.

Don't be wavered by the name.

'Temple of the Knight' is just a metaphor for the part in your brain that tells you what the right thing to do is. Your 'little voice', if you will.

After listening to groups such as Girls Aloud, Avril Lavigne and Pussycat Dolls, I noticed a recurring theme in the lyrics was the hint of arrogance in the words.

So, using my mind to a similar effect, I pretended I was a b**ch.

Funny, but true.

My ultimate ambition with this song was for girls to listen to this song, understand it and look up to the singer and almost idolize them.

Sung beautifully by Thalia Beard, I feel this shouldn't be a problem.

Of course, if you are a lad, then don't feel I left you out.

You may not be able to relate directly to the lyrics, but I hope you enjoy it just as well.

I hope you all like it.

Update: Forgot to say, even though it is electro-esque, all sounds are really played. No arpeggiators or pre loaded samples. Real bass. Played on electric drums.

I really like the intro and I thought OMG! such a good song! But then it ascended into a generic pop melody.

Good nonetheless. But damn, just make an electronica type song in the style of the beggining.

I deem thee worthy of a ten

This song was what i needed for some much needed inspiration. I'm a writer and usually use music to forward my story as i put it to page.
As a review of your song i like it all. Pretty up beat and your girlfriend has a good set of lungs on her.
All i'll say is that i had a small amount of trouble making out the words of the song with the electronic effect on her voice. A little less effect on it and if i could there'd be an eleven.
Keep making music. you have a gift

Demeanor-Ice-Creamer responds:

Hi there.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad I could be part of your inspiration.

So funny about the effect on her voice, as I actually have a lot less on the final copy. Unfortunately, this is the only copy I could get without going to the studio to burn off another one.

Thank you for the 10.
