This is my first ever try at making a hip-hop song. It's short, and it uses mostly FL presets, so it's gonna sound generic, but I really was just messing around on FL Studio when I came up with this. Since it's my first try, I wanted to know if I'm using the right instruments/drum beats/melodies/tempo for this genre, and submitted this song just for the sake of maybe getting a decent review with some honest feedback. Thanks for listening, and enjoy the song :D.

EDIT: I redid the instruments, and made the melody sound more like it was played not written. I hope it sounds a little better :).

Well despite you telling me to skip it... this is actually a sensible song. Drums aren't just crazy ass shit but an actual beat (not a particularly good one but I'm not expecting that yet). I get kinda what you're going for but yeah, you haven't got down that tight minimalist feel at all. Also did you forget to quantize or something. Idk

Step responds:

The quantizing was because Nessbeatsfox told me that everything sounds computerised so I started shifting notes all over the place in the piano roll to make it sound humanised. I did a horrible job of it though, now it sounds like a retarded 13-year old with no musical sense whatsoever messed it up. Which was kinda what happened :3.

However, I have a lot to thannk Nessbeatsfox though because if it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have started humanising my songs a little more until much later.

Step responds:

Thank you, although how on Earth did you find such an old song xP. My newer ones are probably better, check out The Ancient Curse if you want to hear more Hip-Hop.

Thanks for the review and the 10!

Not bad man.

Quite a good effort, but a bit repetitive. I don't think the bass actually fit in fully could've used a bit more harmony. Still got a nine as i don't see anyhting wrong with using presets if u mix them together right and besides, it is ur first effort ;)

Btw, my first two pieces of music finally got accepted. check them out.

Alright thanks... I was never that good with basses, but thanks for the review. By the way, I used presets before but now the only presets are the drums, and I don't think you should use too many presets as your song would get very generic. Thanks again for the review and the nice score - I'll check them out if I get the time ;).

Not too shabby

Not a bad track, but could use some work. I like the piano, but it sounds way too computerized and fake. What I mean, is that you need to "humanize" it a little, so that the notes aren't all completely 100% perfect. This way, it sounds a lot more natural and you'll get a better flow with your tracks. Along with the piano, you may try doing the same thing with your drums, specifically your hats.

I'm not really a huge fan of the bass. You almost need a slightly stronger, more in your face bass (sorry I giggled because I rhymed there). I think it would sound a lot better if you did this. The background synth is okay, but it sounds too much like a trance lead to me. I'd use a more melodic, or lead sounding synth, or if you're going for the more orchestral sound, I'd use something, well, more orchestral.

Not a bad little diddy here. Just keep working on it, and I hope my review helps.

Wow, thanks for the review. I see what you mean by humanizing it. I don't know if I'll be able to do that with the hats, but the piano's going to be easy. As for the bass, I used a bass guitar, which you're completely right by saying it should be stronger. I'll try and make a quick one with FL's Sytrus plugin. The background synth was another preset which was supposed to sound like a string ensemble but sadly didn't manage. I'll try and find a better sample. Thanks for the honest and helpful review, it's exactly what I need for songs like this. :D.
